Living in England, it is hard to imagine a life without the privilege of water. However, my first visit to Bombay, India made me realize how water holds varying importance in different countries. While exploring a settlement there, I witnessed the residents treating a burst pipe with great respect and awe, as if it were a sacred entity.

The sight of the children running and shouting with joy reminded me of a religious ceremony, surprising me greatly and inspiring me to write a poem about the overwhelming situation I witnessed. Observing the inhabitants of this settlement, I couldn't help but notice their contrasting appearance compared to mine. Their skin displayed cracks and excessive dryness from constant exposure to the sun's heat, evoking thoughts of pain. In the first stanza of my poem,

I incorporated my initial observation by comparing their dry skin to a cracking pod.

At the beginning of my poem, I used a powerful image to portray the extent of undernourishment I observed in Bombay. The people in this region are not greedy for water; all they desire is a mere sip of it. Their only wish is to hear the sound of water hitting their mugs, so in my poem, I employed onomatopoeia to emphasize this point, creating an echo effect in a mug. the day finally arrives and water flows out of the pipe, it doesn't simply drip out—it gushes like a river. Upon witnessing this, the community feels an immediate sense of abundance, as if stumbling upon a gold mine. The reaction to the water is akin to our own response to stumbling upon a fortune. In my poem, I depicted this idea by comparing the rushing water to cascading silver hitting the ground. This analogy effectively conveys the true value of water to readers. The adults and children in the city respond differently to this sudden influx of wealth derived from water.

While adults desperately search for containers to store water, everyone celebrates its arrival. Collecting water is crucial for their survival during future droughts. Initially, pots, pans, and buckets are used; however, once filled, they resort to carrying the water in their hands to prevent any wastage. Conversely, children express sheer joy as they run and scream with gratitude towards God for this precious gift. Water dictates the daily lives of all.

Entitled 'Blessing', my poem emphasizes the positive impact of water blessings on the community, bringing happiness, wealth, and joy. Acknowledging this divine gift from God can help them persevere through future droughts.
