Introduction
The issue of resilience in school-aged children and the adolescents across the globe is termed to be the capacity of the given children to have a resistance to the negative psychosocial kinds of consequences that result fr6om given adverse events in their lives. This is not the given absence in the psychopathology after a potential traumatic event but the given activeness process that enables them to maintain given personal stability during the difficult times and situations they face. This resilience develops originally from given interests for the prevalence and the given risk factors involved in children and the young people in which it proceeds to the protective factors that commonly identify them as those with less vulnerability to the adverse experiences they face. This reduce the given psychosocial impact caused by the adverse experiences and the issue of the communities wide and broad exposure to the given traumatic events happening in their lives. Therefore, trauma in school aged children across the globe is common with the adverse experiences they face before gaining the resistance required to maintain their personal stability in life (Ager & Akesson, 2010).
Principles of resistance
In the issue of human made or natural disasters in the world, there are various principles of resilience the children and the adults should have in their lives to maintain their personal stability. One of them is the principle of the given personal control. This means that, people or rather children have to believe in themselves in that they should control their lives at any given point since
the people who have this kind of personal control believe that they also have the highest form of personal satisfaction in their lives. Therefore, personal control is one of the main principles of resilience and should be maintained to avoid trauma. Secondly, in the motivation towards resilience in the trauma in school aged children, the principle of the given coherence is needed a lot (Ager & Akesson, 2010). This means that, the drive for the children to have knowledge about a given disaster or to be given reasons for such an occurrence is needed for the promotion of personal ability to counter trauma. This principle is important in the issue of trauma and resilience in the lives of the school aged children across the globe. Finally, the principle of the given connectedness is important in the promotion of resilience in trauma patients. In disasters, the people affected need to bond with one another even if they are strangers to promote the resilience from trauma and stress. The issue of feeling connected is important in such patients especially the children following a given disaster.
School-aged children
Trauma is caused by a traumatic or adverse experience or event. As such, school aged children across the globe face traumatic events in their daily programs. These traumatic events can b termed as the given sudden or unexpected occurrences that may cause intense fear in the children and consequently harm the given actual harm of the children. How the given children respond to the traumatic events is different in regards to their age and their levels of understanding. There are various challenges the school aged children face in the world in regards
to the issue of traumatic events. First, the feeling of concern for their given safety and for the others is a challenge they face. The guilt and shame they have during or after the adverse traumatic event brings trouble to the school aged children and this constant feeling draws trouble to their minds. Secondly, the school aged children may have challenges in their studies if they are faced with these traumatic events in their lives. Learning can be interrupted for the given children to gain their resilience towards such a situation and lead to the children dropping out of school due to trauma. In addition, the traumatic event may lead to the school aged children feeling guilty and want to revenge about the adverse experience they had (Bonanno, 2011). The show of distress through complaints, show of behaviors like anger, aggression and others shows that the child is distressed and a lot has to be done to bring the child into normal state of mind. Others develop the aspect of social distress as one of the challenges they face and this makes the children traumatized. Therefore, resilience in these traumatic events in the school aged children is important and should be addressed through various programs initiated to help the children to overcome such situations in life.
Tuesday’s Children Program
In the United States, the Tuesday’s Children is one of the programs that were developed to promote the resilience of the given school aged children who have lost their loved ones in any given terrorist attack across the country. The program does not promote resilience for the children only but for any family found with such a traumatizing
event in their lives. It helps in the strengthening of the children resilience in the country and promotes the issue of healing and the recovery process of the children for them to continue with their studies. The provision of individual coping in real life and the life management kinds of skills is the main purpose for the creation of this program since it helps kin building resilience in the children (Bonanno, 2011).
The Head Start Program
This program was made to provide a comprehensive education, the issue of nutrition and the parent involvement in the school aged children from the low income earning families. The issue of being poor and cannot afford anything is a traumatic event for the children across the globe and building resilience is important to them so that they may not feel neglected at any given point (Bonanno, 2011).Stable family kinds of relationships are fostered in this program to promote the issue of well-being for the school aged children across the United States. The issue of unstable relationships in families cause trauma to the school aged children thus affecting their studies in school. This aspect is controlled by this program to help promote and strengthen the resilience in the children and continue with their studies without interruptions. This requires the given children to interact successfully with the other peers and create the connectedness bond between them in which it will create strong resilience in them.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Program
This is another program in the United States formed to foster and improve the issue of resilience in school aged children in the country (Cicchetti, 2013). This is a monitoring group for the children in
the country and promotes the issue of resilience in the children by helping them to attain their goals in life through professional support. Trauma is the cause of children being taught about resilience and this is the main purpose of the program. It is a not-profit program made to help the children across the country in the development of skills in the managing of traumatizing and adverse situations for the children. It is clear that the school aged children are faced with many challenges when a traumatizing event happens to them. Therefore, the program is formed to foster resilience in children across the country since they ar delicate and form the future generation.
Compare and contrast the three programs
In comparing the three programs, it is evident that they all aim at administering and promotion of the issue of resilience in the school aged children in the country. They all claim the children to be delicate and advocate to good and stable relationships in the families of the children (Cicchetti, 2013). This is their main goal and achieving it is instilling resilience to the traumatized children and helping in their education. In contrast to this programs, Tuesday’s Children is the only on that categorically deals with the children faced with the loss of their loved ones in given terrorist attacks across the country. This is important since it helps the children to have resilience in fighting trauma and other stressing factors.
Conclusion
In conclusion, resilience in school aged children is important since it makes the children avoid the given challenges they face when having traumatizing events in schools or at home. Trauma and resilience go hand in hand and
for the children trauma can be harmful to their studies and their lives. Therefore, resilience through various programs across the country is important to make sure the children are safe from traumatizing events in their daily life (Cicchetti, 2013).
