For efficient and smooth assimilation in the new country, I have prepared myself academically, culturally and linguistically by reading Japanese related materials, experiencing their foods in different locations and watching Japanese movies to learn and understand their norms and values effectively. Academically, I have strived to excel in languages by taking courses related to cultural diversity and interconnectedness. In my previous course, I did an in-depth review of Japanese Folktales which are a classic element that showcases the community’s beliefs, norms, and values. The information I gained from the course will lay a solid platform for adapting to the Japanese values and traditions. Culturally, I took the initiative to listen to Japanese songs, watch movies and experience their foods as a way of getting prepared for a smooth assimilation once I enroll in the program. Finally, I have learned a few common words and expressions such as saying hi, or thank you in Japanese language. With these experiences at hand, am sure the integration process into the new country’s traditions, language and culture will be a simple task for me to handle.
