What is World History?
World History is a complex and expansive subject that spans centuries of human events, cultural developments and political changes. It encompasses the story of our planet from its earliest beginnings to the present day, exploring how societies have evolved over time. As one of humanities oldest disciplines, world history features an array of themes including religion, warfare, art, economics, politics and technology. The earliest recorded World History dates back to roughly 8500 BCE when humans first began forming agricultural communities in the Middle East’s Fertile Crescent region. This period saw some of the most influential empires throughout history emerge such as Egypt’s Old Kingdom which lasted from 2700-2180 BCE. By 1000 BCE several city-states had developed in both Mesopotamia and Ancient Greece while India was experiencing its Vedic Age civilization (1500-600 BCE). During this same time period China was also developing into a major power with its Shang Dynasty ruling (1766 1050 BC). From here we move on to what is known as Classical Antiquity from 500BCE – 600CE; this era featured powerful empires like Persia who controlled much of Southwest Asia at their peak around 500BCE before being conquered by Alexander The Great in 330BCE. Rome came next with many aspects of their culture influencing Western society for centuries afterwards until it fell in 476CE after dominating Europe for nearly five hundred years. Meanwhile India was ruled by multiple dynasties during this same period along with China which experienced various golden ages under rulers such as Shi Huangdi (First Emperor) who unified all seven states into one country in 221BECE creating the Qin dynasty. The medieval age followed lasting approximately 900 years starting around 400CE 1400CE featuring vast advancements across science, literature, art and architecture while Islam spread rapidly becoming prominent influence within global affairs alongside Christianity by 1000 CE until they reached their climax respectively during 1200’s/1300’s when crusades were fought between them for control over holy land Jerusalem.. Then came Renaissance which emerged out Italy bringing about new ideas during 1300’s/1400’s before expanding around Europe marking significant progress politically socially & economically allowing countries like Spain & Portugal gain colonies overseas opening up routes sea trade leading Industrial Revolution 1700 onwards throughout Europe & North America resulting technological advances mass production modern science etc Today we are living through a period referred to as Globalization where national boundaries become increasingly blurred due increasing interconnectedness among people nations cultures goods services etc allowing us experience world different ways than ever before despite lingering issues poverty inequality climate change etc.
