What is Primary Sex Characteristics?

Primary sex characteristics refer to the physical features that distinguish males and females at puberty. These include the development of reproductive organs, such as testes in males and ovaries in females, as well as the production of hormones like testosterone and estrogen. In females, these changes include an increase in breast size and fatty tissue deposits around hips and thighs; widening of hips for childbirth; a decrease in muscle mass compared to males; lighter body hair on their arms and legs; a higher-pitched voice than men’s voices usually possess; a decrease in libido compared to males’ libidos; menstrual cycles involving bleeding from uterine lining every month or so. These physical changes are accompanied by psychological ones too: adolescents may experience elevated levels of anxiety or depression due to hormonal fluctuations associated with puberty or due to feeling different from peers who may have already entered or completed puberty while they are still going through it.
