What is Deep Breathing Exercises?

This allows us to observe them without judgment or attachment so that we may make more conscious choices about how we respond rather than being driven by fear or reactivity. Deep breathing also activates areas of the brain associated with happiness such as the hypothalamus which promotes a positive outlook on life as well as reducing depression symptoms. To practice deep breathing start by finding a comfortable position either seated or lying down with your spine in neutral alignment. You may want to close your eyes if it feels comfortable for you to do so before bringing your awareness into your body noticing how it feels in each moment without trying to change anything just yet. Begin by slowly inhaling for 4 counts allowing your abdomen to expand forward towards the ground with each breath before gradually exhaling for 8 counts engaging your pelvic floor muscles on each out breath if possible until all air is released from your lungs at which point you will then begin again at 4 counts figuring up inhale-4 hold-2 exhale-8 hold-2 etc. Continue this cycle for 510 minutes taking note when thoughts arise but returning gently back into counting when they do so until you reach a state of stillness within yourself where nothing else matters other than being present within that moment now ÍŸ. As you become more familiar with this practice try experimenting with different lengths in order to find what works best for you personally.
