What is Blood In The Urine?
Blood in the urine, also known as hematuria, is a condition where red blood cells are present in the urine. It can be an indication of a wide range of medical problems including kidney stones, prostate infections, and even cancer. While not always serious, it should never be ignored and should always be brought to the attention of a doctor for further investigation. If you notice any discoloration or reddish tinge to your urine sample then you should inform your doctor right away. Your doctor will determine what tests need to be done in order to diagnose the underlying cause of your hematuria. Tests may include urinalysis (testing for white blood cells), microscopic examination (to look for red blood cells), imaging tests such as ultrasound scans or CT scans (to detect abnormalities within your urinary tract) and cystoscopy (a procedure used to view inside the bladder). Hematuria can often have no symptoms at all so if you do notice any discoloration or tinge in your urine then it’s important that you see a doctor immediately. Treatment options vary depending on the underlying cause but may involve antibiotics if there is an infection present, surgery if there is a blockage causing obstruction or medications/lifestyle changes for other conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes which could contribute to hematuria. In conclusion, although not always serious, bloody urine should always prompt further investigation by a doctor as it can indicate several different medical issues which require specific treatments dependent on their severity. If left untreated these conditions could worsen so seeking medical advice early is key when dealing with such matters.
