What is AP World History?

AP World History is a college-level course that focuses on the history of human development from the time of earliest civilizations to the present. The course covers key themes such as global interactions, changes and continuities over time, and comparisons between different regions, societies, and cultures. It also examines developments in political, economic, religious, social, intellectual/cultural realms across all continents. Students learn about major world events like colonization and globalization as well as technological advancements like industrialization and urbanization.The AP World History exam consists of two sections: multiple choice questions (55% of score) and free-response questions (45% of score). Multiple choice questions are designed to assess students’ knowledge on historical facts while free-response questions require students to analyze primary source documents in order to answer an essay question or provide their own argumentative analysis. Topics covered on the exam include but are not limited to: empires throughout history; cultural diffusion; population movements; revolutions; colonialism & imperialism; gender roles & family structures; religion & philosophy; science & technology advances; trade networks within Asia/Africa/Europe/Americas etc.; migrations & diasporas.
