What is Ancient Greece?

Ancient Greece was one of the most influential civilizations in human history. It had a profound impact on western civilization and laid the groundwork for democracy, philosophy, literature, and art. Ancient Greece was the birthplace of some of the world’s most renowned thinkers including Plato, Socrates, Aristotle and Homer. They developed advanced mathematics and science which laid the foundation for subsequent generations to expand upon their discoveries.The city-states of Ancient Greece were fiercely independent from each other yet bound by a common culture based on mythology and religion. They were united under an Olympic Games which was held every four years in honour of Zeus. This event brought together people from all over Greece to compete in athletic feats such as running, wrestling, javelin throwing and chariot racing. The Olympics also served as a symbol of unity between the various city-states who shared a common language and culture that can still be seen today in many aspects of our own society.In terms of government structure Ancient Greece adopted both monarchy and oligarchy systems but ultimately it moved towards democracy which allowed citizens to have more input into how their society ran itself with all citizens having an equal voice in decision making processes through public debates or assemblies. This idea has been carried forward even today where democracy is widely considered to be one of the best forms of government available to humanity at this point in time due its ability to allow people’s voices to be heard while still providing structure within which decisions can be made collectively rather than by individuals alone. In conclusion it is quite clear that Ancient Greece had an enormous impact on modern western civilization due not only its advances in mathematics & science but also because it introduced many concepts that are still used today such as democracy & philosophy along with its impressive achievements like architecture & art that have stood the test of time allowing us to appreciate their beauty over two thousand years later after they were first created making them some truly timeless works.
