The issue of protecting the wellbeing as well as peace of mankind has been a top priority in all the world governments since it is a highly essential aspect in the assurance of continuous economic development and social cohesiveness. People tend to work more closely and effectually in establishing solid grounds in the building up of a cohesive community within which highly productive goals can be conceptualized, enacted and conducted in the most effectual manner. Once the people are provided with a safe environment and proper working conditions, they can easily make proper choices and carry out their daily activities in the best positive fashion which ascertains that the end results are of exemplary quality.

Equivalently important is the issue of upholding high quality health care as well as timely medical assistance to the people whenever need arises. The general health of the people ensures that they are bodily able and physically fit to conduct tiresome activities encapsulated in most community projects that are aimed at espousing the means of improving the livelihood of the citizens. In order to ensure that the world nations are sufficiently capable of absconding the fangs of war, tribal conflicts and rivalries which result to unfavorable conditions for achievement of freedom and positive development of the nations, an authoritative body known as the United Nations (UN) that’s globally recognized was instituted in June 1945. This was after the culmination of the World War II.

Its main agenda is to ascertain that the world citizens are provided with optimal security and peace regardless of their geographical situations, regional policies, governmental rules, cultural believes

and societal status. UN seeks at promoting international unification in working towards alienating poverty, war and inhumane actions. This is achieved by bringing together all the distinct competencies and capabilities from the world nations in formulating the best decisions of solving humanitarian challenges revolving around cultural, social and economic realms of life. Friendliness amongst the world nations is also a core aspect that is continuously upheld by the UN as it would ease the attainment of productive relations amongst countries.

Furthermore, if the nations are friendly intertwined, they would be able to effectively pinpoint warmongers, terrorists and rebels who work at dismantling peace incentives. In fact, terrorist activities such as bomb attacks, kidnappings and assassinations amongst other heinous acts would be identified in good time and be countered in best means possible since the nations will be able to share necessary information proactively. Fifty one countries chartered the initial inauguration of the UN. Currently, the body has expounded to a total of 193 members countries . The UN is also characterized with a great deal of dynamism which is manifested in its ability to formulate and enact new policies whenever new issues prop up in peacemaking and humanitarianism.

The UN is obligated to ensure that the international issues are solved properly in best manner possible that ensures peace and security for the citizens is achieved in the short run and long term. It solves issues of war while keeping societal justice and peace at top priority via holding as many meetings/discussions as necessary in order to achieve meticulous determination of best fit decisions to carry forward. The four major purposes that the UN serves includes preserving international

security as well as peace amongst nations. This particular purpose is deemed the most important by most humanitarians since it’s through peace maintenance that all other goals of improving livelihood of people from all walks of life can be achieved.

Peace results to common understanding and sharing of ideas amongst nations which fosters an avenue for proficient discussions on probable ways of solving problems facing certain regions and the world in its entirety. This purpose of maintaining peace also lays a firm foundation for the effective accomplishment of the other purposes such as creating friendly relations, thwarting skirmishes and providing humanitarian help. Only after peace has been established that people can be able to resolve conflicts without future renaissance. The UN’s other purpose is to ensure that nations achieve friendliness in the manner with which the governments interact and cooperate in peace building activities . Moreover, the citizens of different countries are made aware of the importance of interacting more closely as equal beings who don’t discriminate each other on basis of race or complexion. Consequently, the nations will be able to trade appropriately and also work at protecting each other’s borders as well as integrity so as to maintain continuous economic growth of the region.

The UN also purposes to offer humanitarian succor to areas or nations that are hard hit by food shortages, poverty, diseases outbreaks, illiteracy and/or deprivation of human rights. In fact, UN is focused at ensuring that every human is offered the opportunity of accessing the appropriate freedoms in accordance to the UN’s policy stipulations relating to human rights and justice. For instance, all beings should be offered freedom of expression and

movement regardless of societal status or race.

Additionally, the UN is focused at ensuring that high quality health care and education standards are affordably made accessible to all the citizens within the member countries. Due to the fact that countries which have humanitarian problems are mostly faced with the issue of meagre funding, the UN ensures that funds are garnered and enough resources are supplied to support in solving these issues amicably. Irrevocably, the UN will be able to convince the nations to comprehend their intentions as well as the essentiality therein hence ensuring that the world nations are harmonized in joining hands towards achieving the goals stipulated by the organization.

Shifting our focus onto discussing the organizations main bodies, it is particularly important to mention that one body, the Court of Justice is situated in The Hague that’s situated in Netherlands whereas all other UN bodies are headquartered in New York City. The New York headquarters act as the main operational center of UN. Moreover, the organization’s offices situated in other countries are steered by the headquarters. Unvaryingly important note is that the UN habitually held organizational meetings in locations that aren’t close to its headquarters . The first UN body is the General Assembly that is comprised of all the UN’s constituent member states. Notwithstanding the member state’s influence or size, this particular body offers each member one vote.

The General Assembly can handle any rising issue that is categorized within the UN charter. Two-thirds majority rule is utilized in the selection of the most suitable verdict for a certain debatable motion in resolving a certain pressing matter. This particular majority rule is also used in

the registration of additional members as well as in deciding the most favorable budget for the organization . The General Assembly’s rulings and tenacities are regarded as recommendations towards the UN members and which are viewed as highly sensitive due to the fact that they offer member states indubitable reasons to join treaties or what are alternatively referred to as international accords or conventions.
This body holds their sessions for a whole year. The General Assembly is predominantly busy from the session’s onset on mid-September up the month of December since this time is basically bombarded with the adoption of greater bulk of resolutions . However, the General Assembly can be called in to conduct special or exceptional sessions by the Security Council or even by the greater proportion of the member states.

The ordinary sessions are welcomed by the presentation of opinions from the State leaders on various imperative concerns that are affecting the communities such as terrorist threats and poverty. A president whose role is to steer the annual meetings is elected every year by the members of the UN. The general assembly is made up of six committees which include the Legal committee, Economic and Financial committee, Disarmament and International Security committee, Administrative and Budgetary committee, Special Political and Decolonization committee and lastly the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural committee.

The second UN main body is the Security Council which is mainly accountable for ascertaining that transnational security and peace are upheld. Contrary to the case of General Assembly’s holding of regular meetings, the Security Council can be called upon to set up meetings whenever need arises probably when international tranquility is at risk. At this

juncture, the Security Council advices the conflicting parties or nations to uphold peace and ensure that they achieve a consensus via peaceful ways instead of facing their disputes as antagonists. This is done via mediation and negotiation.

If this attempts fail, the council authorizes forceful enforcement of peace amongst the conflicting nations with assistance from various enthusiastic UN members. Security Council body is made up of fifteen member for example, UK (United Kingdom), France, China, US and Russian Federation. These countries shown as examples are also referred to as the UN Security Council permanent members. ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) is the third body of UN which is deemed as the central component whose main aim is to ensure that the organization’s social and economic affairs are appropriately and accurately synchronized. This body is made up of a total of 54 members who have equal vote of one. The council is specifically involved in ensuring that the economic wellbeing of developing countries is maintained in the best possible standards.

Additionally, it is concerned with buttressing the rights of every citizen, promoting proper coordination to alleviate capabilities of easily eliminating poverty. ECOSOC is responsible in controlling the operation of several agencies created by the UN’s General Assembly. These agencies include UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization), UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and WHO (World Health Organization). The international court of justice simply known as ICJ is responsible for dealing with conflicts related to legal issues. These conflicts must be between two or more countries but not involving certain individuals. It is the core judicial

body of the United Nations. ICJ constitutes of at least fifteen judges from different countries and who are expected to serve the body for a term of 9 years at a maximum. The Secretariat body of the UN is comprised of all the staff members who operate in UN offices situated in different locations in the world which include Geneva, New York and Nairobi among others . The last body of the UN is the Trusteeship Council. It is responsible for supporting the positive development of those territories that have not yet achieved self-reliance and independence .

Strategies which encapsulate the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations include guaranteeing that nurses and health practitioners are offered proper and adequate pay and opportunities to present their innovations. In fact, high quality medical care should be provided to all individuals in regardless of age, gender or geographical localities. This strategy will attain the 1st, 3rd, 9th and 5th of the 17 UN sustainable goals . Another strategy is offering every child equal opportunities in gaining education on how to become nurses in future, maintain hygiene, conserve environment as well as being knowledgeable on how to cultivate agricultural crops that will ascertain proper nutrition. Once this is achieved the 10th, 14th, 8th, 12th and 13th UN sustainable goals will be definitely attained. Additionally, making residential areas and public places such as schools and hospitals to have clean water and proper sanitation will achieve the 6th and 11th UN sustainable goals.

Nursing care can be offered in a manner that will manifest equality for all patients. This will minimize inequality and discriminations hence making people to work in a

more unified manner. Consequently, the 16th and 10th UN sustainable goals will be attained . The nursing organizations which are of particular interest to UN affairs include the American Nurses Association, American Forensic Nurses and Alliance for Psychosocial Nursing and Emergency Nurses Association
