The Starry Night is simply an exceptional painting by the Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh.

Van Gogh was an ancient painter whose career began in Netherlands before relocating to Paris in search of greener pastures. He made several paintings before committing suicide after nine years into the profession.

Van Gogh is well known for a series of paintings, and the Starry Night is one them. The size of the painting is 29 by 36 inches, and oil on canvas are the materials used. The first thing I noticed about the painting is the overwhelmingly bright sky, which occupies almost the entire background of the painting. The painting depicts a view from the East of night sky brimming with swirling clouds with star blazes and bright crescent moon, just before sunrise, with the addition of idealized peaceful village.

The architecture of the village is simple and there is no light illuminating the village streets which gives me the impression that probably, everyone could be asleep. I like night sky in the painting, especially how it depicts the panorama of the village during night time.

The painting is set at night, with brighter skies, swirling clouds painted in blue, green and bright yellow crescent moon in the upper right corner. Lighter shades of blue outline the stars in the sky, with some stars being larger than others. The town is shown in shades of blue, and yellow squares of sky light, but doesn't show the presence of electricity or candle lights and there is no presence of people. To the left of the painting is a tall, dark, mysterious structure that resembles a tree growing towards the sky. The objective

of this painting is to clearly depict the scenery of a small town during the night. The crescent moon over the town shows there is balance in the painting since it gives the right side of the painting a taller feeling that equals the left side.

The dominant elements of art used in this painting are value, space, and texture. Value is used throughout the painting with different shades of green and blue being used in most parts of the painting. The depth of the night sky is used to provide an element of space. Although the town is small compared to other parts of the painting, I find still large enough to create an element of space that goes into the painting, reaching the mountains. The painting has several distinct brushstrokes that bring out the element of texture. I think painting’s focal point is the night sky, due to the use of bright colors and heavy brush strokes that easily draw attention.

From the painting, it's clear that Van Gogh did the painting from his memory to instill some kind of emotion and spirit. The way my eyes move around as I scan the painting, with each part of the painting flowing into the other shows that the painting has rhythm.

The emphasis on the painting is in the bright night sky and the tall, mysterious dark green object on the left of the painting. The huge swirling clouds above the small town show the struggles it's undergoing to become independent and stable. The church is depicted as a tall structure that reaches up to the sky, shows that help could either come from above or maybe

above the swirling clouds, there is peace. By using the church in the painting, it shows Van Gogh was a religious man who believed in God. The painting seems to be steaming with life, particularly the night sky. I like how it seems to be the life force in this small village that is bursting with dynamism.
