1. ) Factors which contribute to a person being more vulnerable to abuse are the victim having Limited knowledge of independence or sex education, Unaware of human right or no mental capacity, Living alone or no family or friends contact, Not familiar with the complaints procedure, Unable or limited communication, Being elderly, Having physical or mental disabilities.

2. 1) If it is suspects that an individual is being abused then it needs to be reported straight away. Make sure to gather as much information or facts as oh can and to also inform the victim of whatnot have to do with the information.

Report this information to your safeguarding officer or to a senior member of staff, manager, police or social services. The report will need to be given verbally and also written so that it is signed and dated.

You will have to follow your company policy which will involve report writing and also informing the ICQ.

2. 2) If an individual alleges that they are being abused you are to make sure you do not jump to any conclusions or judgments. Again your company policy and procedure should be followed. Everything should be recorded and signed and dated and then reported to your safeguarding officer or equivalent.

It is important to reassure the victim throughout the whole of the process and letting them know that their safety comes first.

2. 3) Ways to ensure that evidence of abuse is preserved is to: Leave things exactly how

they were found such as the room the abuse took place. Also to make sure no one else enters the room apart from those investigating the allegations. To not wash any clothes or beddings or clean any weapons or objects used in the abuse. To label, time and date all paper work or evidence.

Record and report all that is said from the victim and witnesses.

Ensure all of the above if needed is kept in a safe and secure place.

3. 1 & 3. 2) National policies and local systems that relate to safe guarding and protection from abuse are: Human Rights act as it promotes the right to a life, to liberty, to not be tortured or treated inhumanly. Safeguarding vulnerable groups act restricts the contact or possible contact between vulnerable children or adults and those which may do harm to them, Independent safeguarding authority SIS) was created to help prevent what is seen to be 'unsuitable' people from working with vulnerable people.

Disclosure and barring scheme (DB'S) checks are put in place to help employer recruit staff safely and help to make the right decisions when employing people to work with vulnerable people. Police - Their role is to investigate allegations and prosecute when needed. They protect and maintain the rights of vulnerable adults and victims of abuse. Safeguarding Board - These work with all the multi agencies involved such as police, social services, and advocacy teams to share information and monitor he process.

Care quality commission (ICQ) board these will also monitor the overall process as well as offering support and guidance to all professionals on the 'musts' that should be carried

out when involved in a case of abuse.

Care and social services inspectorate Wales (CASSIS) are similar to ICQ just based only in Wales, they are responsible in inspecting all of the social care setting out there in Wales to make sure they are a safe place for the people who use them. In Safe Hands - Welsh government 'Protection of vulnerable adults'. .

3) A popular report into serious failures to protect individuals from buses was about Castles Care Ltd the owners of Wintergreen View care home. Castles had failed to ensure and protect the vulnerable adults with learning difficulties living at Wintergreen View. Mainly physical and emotional abuse took place in Wintergreen View over a period of time.

Staffs were caught on CATV set up by the residents family pinning down, slapping, dousing in cold water and trapping residents under chairs.

Castles Care Ltd failed to notify the Care Quality Commission (ICQ) of these incidents and report the injuries of individuals and of occasions when individuals had gone missing. ICQ conducted inspections on all the units run by wintergreen they also conducted wider 'health checks' on over 1 50 learning disability services. From the report there was a lot of actions brought into place, ICQ have had to tighten their belts, they now run tighter inspections on care homes and also have a greater involvement of the service users and their families.

Another well-known report of serious failure to protect was that of Ian Huntley. In August 2002 two 10-year old girls went missing from their home in Camaraderie.

Less than two weeks later their iodides were found in a ditch Suffolk. In December 2003 Ian Huntley,

a school caretaker was found guilty of the murders. After Huntley was convicted, it was revealed that he had been investigated in the past for sexual offences and burglary but Humidifiers police had destroyed all information regarding previous allegations and had still been allowed to work in a school as none of these investigations had resulted in a conviction.

An independent inquiry into the events was carried which questioned the way employers recruited people to work with vulnerable groups and in particularly the way in which aground checks were carried out. One of the recommendations was for a single agency to vet all individuals who want to work or volunteer to work with children or vulnerable adults. The Vetting and Barring Scheme, run by the Independent Safeguarding Authority was set up and began rolling out voluntary registration in all countries except Scotland in 2009.

3. 4). Available sources of information and advice to help me develop and understand my role in safeguarding and protecting individuals from abuse would be: Manager and staff team, Companies e-learning Companies safeguarding policy, Internet and Books, Whereas councils social services team, ICQ - Care quality commission, CASSIS - Care and social services inspectorate Wales, In Safe Hand (Welsh Government)

5. 1) The likelihood of abuse could be reduced by working with: 'Person centered values' as they are all about the person themselves including their rights, their choices, their privacy and freedom.

Person centered values are always or should always be took into consideration when supporting a person.

Along with this and all the training you undergo should make it less keel to lead to abuse as all the support team should be working

in the same way and will know the rights and wrongs when supporting people. The majority of the people I support may not always be able to communicate to say what they want to do and what they like but because of person centered approaches put together by people that know the person abuse is highly unlikely to occur. Encouraging active participation' as this is a way of work which identifies and individual's right to participate in everyday activities or the forming of relationships. The people we support are seen as active partners in their own care and support, so if they 'actively' and willingly take part in the daily activities then abuse is less likely to occur. 'Promoting choice and rights' as the people we support are always prompted to make choices in what they want from anything to eat and drink so how they want to spend their days or have a bath in the evening etc.

O therefore because it has been chosen by that person and forcing or abuse is less likely to happen due to the people being supported have made the decision themselves.

5. 2) It is important to have an accessible complaints procedure to be able to reduce the likelihood of abuse. At McIntyre we make sure everyone is aware and Our complaints procedure and that it is accessible to all. All the people we supports care plans has a copy of the complaints procedure and also an empty form if they wish to complain.

It allows the people we support to be heard and to have a voice.

The procedure of complaining is explained to the complainant and they are

kept involved through the whole process of where the complaint is up to in the procedure. This shows abuse is not tolerated and f they feel it is then they have the right and the appropriate support to do so.

6. 1) Unsafe practice that may affect individuals is: No disposing of waste correctly I.
