The gilded age was mainly an era that was characterized by the various technological innovations, mass immigrations, and dispute over currency, political corruption among other incidences. This period is important especially with regard to the American history since it led to rapid economic growth especially in the northern and western parts. The rapid economic growth is believed to have led to the real wage growth to about 60% especially between 1860 to 1890.

Many of the historians initially had the view that the gilded age was mainly characterized with the increase in the social evils such as political corruption. However this view has changed with time. The various technological innovations that were experienced during the gilded age helped to give great push to the urbanization. Innovations in the transport and communication sectors helped to stimulate Americans mass production since the workers were able to access the industrialized cities even if they lived a few miles away. Due to this period the American society eventually became mass producers, transporters and consumers of various goods. During this period the corporate became one of the dominant forms of the business organization that helped in transforming the business operations. Eventually the United States was able to emerge as heavily industrial world power. This period therefore played a critical role in altering the American life as well as the society in all aspects.

In conclusion it is evident that through covering this topic one can be able to establish the making of the modern America. The rise of the various big businesses during the gilded age helped in transforming the American economy. The innovations that were experienced in this period also helped to ensure that the Americans were able to live easier and safer lives. For instance the Edison invention of the light bulb has made a significance impact on the society we have today. However the different innovation experienced during this period also led to the emergence of some of the social evils that are currently experienced in US such as the political corruptions.
