The assassination of Martin Luther King was a big blow to the people of America at a time when they were seeking peace and justice. The speech is persuasive as Robert used examples to show how peace was vital for the nation to continue living in love. He used pathos to show that emotions could be high at the moment for revenge but this would only worsen the situation. He later used logos and ethos to show what the country needed was understanding and compassion towards one another and avoid hatred, violence, and lawlessness so that blacks and whites live together.

The speech makes me sympathetic and raises my ethics by appreciating the fact that hatred and a desire for revenge will not resolve the problems but rather understanding and justice.

The killing of Martin Luther King, a black, by what appeared to be a white person triggered the long-held pain of the community. The action had pricked the wound, and so Robert had come to deliver the message as well as calm the nation. He pleaded for love, wisdom and compassion towards one another at this difficult moment. He further exemplified the adverse effects if the route of revenge was taken.

It is a time he was full of hatred and a desire for revenge. It made the community appreciate that these are human feelings which can be dealt with. His request for the community to return home and pray for the family of Martin Luther King and the community as a whole was a challenge posed to the community. It led them to mourn and come to soberness through self-reflection. It avoided acting due to the anger and let the justice take its course.

Rights are not absolute. Rights are limited by respect for others. As Martin dedicated his life advocating for love and justice, there needs to be revenge for the white who disregarded this by being brought to book immediately. By preaching for understanding, it is not logical as the long rooted problem is not being dealt with.
