Upon comparing my nursing practice to the ICN code of ethics, I was pleased to discover that the fundamental responsibilities outlined within the ICN code of ethics aligned with my personal approach to patient care. According to ICN (2012), these responsibilities encompass promoting health, disease prevention, restoring health, and alleviating suffering. Furthermore, it is the nurse's responsibility to uphold and respect the rights of patients, including their right to life, dignity, and respectful treatment.

As a nurse, it is crucial to provide non-discriminatory nursing care regardless of an individual's race, religion, culture, physical disability, political affiliation or socioeconomic status. I prioritize culturally sensitive patient care that respects their customs and spiritual beliefs. To maintain these ethical principles, my employer mandates annual participation in culturally sensitive courses to demonstrate continued learning and competency. Trust is paramount in building relationships with patients and their families; therefore, confidentiality must be maintained by only allowing designated individuals access to confidential information. My motivation to continue my nursing career stems from the opportunity to work autonomously in the ICU.

Sound judgment and critical thinking skills are crucial for nurses to achieve positive patient outcomes and professional growth. Providing excellent nursing care is a commitment that offers great potential in the field. Being a nurse involves manifold responsibilities, but it can equip you for any occupational or long-term professional path owing to the diversity of roles and vast positions nurses occupy. Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in nursing will facilitate my progress towards promotion opportunities and unlock new pathways for future prospects. My immediate aim of attaining the qualification will enable me to serve as a trainer on my current unit and participate in teaching committees at my workplace. Nurses' proactive initiatives for change have led to several openings, such as the recent stroke coordinator position made available to a nurse pursuing her degree, which has culminated in her attaining a management role and focusing on her interests. The possibilities are unbounded for short-term goals.

Regarding my long-term career goals, I am aware that achieving my degree is essential to pursuing my aspirations of becoming a critical care Nurse Practitioner. This achievement will have a significant impact on opening new doors and meeting necessary requirements.
