I was born in Baltimore, Maryland and attended my elementary school in Maryland state school. My family still lives in Maryland, and my siblings all go to school there. We grew up a large family, and my dad was a senior lecturer at Illinois state university. My mother was a flight attendant and used to spend more time overseas. She had to change her career to spend more time with the family. I am the first born and always relished the attention my younger siblings gave me. We used to hold family gathering each year, and the adults encouraged us better our studies. In particular, I had problems with my English class during my rookie years.

How I started off

2 in my 8th and 9th class. However, the lessons only involved Basic English such as verbs and vocabulary. The experience was exciting, but I desired more than the basics. It was during the years 1993-1995 that I learnt of new vocabulary, passive sentences and advanced grammar. This was the period when I was in high school and the use of English language in my studies was more prominent. There were article writing competitions in high school that were geared towards advancing our literally and writing skills. In one writing instance, Baltimore Sun media group enrolled the best students into their company and I was lucky to be among the enrolled group

a year to learn writing and listening skills. As a result of Baltimore sun media group’s good relations with the British, I was sent to a BET course which I undertook for two months. It involved studying English as per the Cambridge university standards. I passed the course and had a rewarding experience where my company sent me on business in Bahrain. While in Bahrain, I realized I had plenty of free time between 5 pm to 8pm. I decided to utilize this time by joining the American English institute for a period of 2 months.

Enrolment in Mohammed University

In the year 2013, I had already enrolled in the Mohammed University and I leant that students with IELTS had the privilege of having a waiver for those with a score of 4.5 and above. My score after the IELTS test was 4.5 courtesy of a private English tutor who I had met in Skype. Also, my excellence in the subject was aided by my love for English movies and series. They enhanced my listening as well as communication skills through a command of English language.

Conclusion

Studying English was a great and rewarding experience in my life. Through my subsequent enrolments in university courses, I have mastered the art of communication, both written and oral as well as writing and research. The timeline for my study of English language has extended over two decades. It has been a detailed and exciting venture which has helped me to improve my language proficiency as well as my career. It was a worth journey and I appreciate the efforts of all those involved in making it a success.
