My Future as a Manager, With Executive Summary of Class and Collaboration Skills Essay Example
The course's topics on ensuring effective communication in organizations and finding an efficient manager have played a significant role in my understanding of managing people and fostering collaboration in an organization. It is now vividly clear on how I can be, or rather how I can get a good manager for a firm. I also noted that communication from the manager to other stakeholders in the organization is very essential. It helps maintain a good relationship as well as achieving business efficiency. The improved understanding I have gained in this course will help me deal with various issues as a manager in the right manner.
Management as a task will be far easier for me if all my juniors were hard working, had a great attitude towards the work and an exceptional talent. But then, acco
...rding to what I have gained, if this were to be the case, it would not be termed as management. I now understand that in reality, management is different. People are different, and I have an obligation to treat them differently according to their characteristics. Management is not an easy job, but I will focus my energy positively in doing the tasks and solving the puzzles that I may encounter in my career.
People who have not taken this course will think that management is the simplest well paying job around. But it is until they are in the seat that they realize how wrong they were. One learns a lot about the manager's role from the contents and assignments in the course. I have learnt that management won't just about assigning duties and waiting for reports from the people you manage
Management is about organizing your people, coordinating the activities of the business, evaluating the business' proceedings to ensure that you are achieving the business objectives.
As a manager, you also have to be innovative so that the policies that you put in place reap more benefits than what any other person would have done. Your goals as a manager and the business as a whole have to be clearly defined. I now know that working without goals is suicide, but is it just any goals to fill the gap? No! The goals have to be realistic but not too simple, measurable, accurate and timely. This means that my team and I have to work hard and in the stipulated time frame to achieve them. Each step we take as a company is designed to achieve the goals. Evaluation of the goals is also essential. Otherwise, we may not determine what we have accomplished over time and the whole point of setting goals will be void.
I could not have known, let alone appreciate the vital roles that managers play in an organization were it not be for this course. How could I have imagined that managers can positively or negatively influence a business' performance? But it is now clear that a good manager is equal to a successful business. Managers shape everything in an organization. A gloomy working day may be caused by a gloomy manager and a bright day too by a jolly manager. We should appreciate the people who shape our business.
A Strategy for My Professional and Personal Life
Nature my relationships. Relationships with family and friends are the greatest source of inner satisfaction. Loved ones
build you when broken and motivate you when you have lost hope. I will ensure that my relationships are great by making them a priority in my life. We both know that life is never smooth and there is nothing permanent in this world. But by giving relationships with loved ones the priority they deserve, I can endure the hardships that may come along and thus maintain an everlasting happiness with my family. Work relationships are also essential. I will build trust among my coworkers and my supervisor and a healthy relationship. Making friends isn't too hard, I just have to be a good and caring manager. A reputable relationship will help me much as a manager.
I can be able to consult with my coworkers and come up with better solutions that can help me avoid ethically ambiguous situations. If I am in such a situation, advice from my colleagues can help me as I try to figure out what to do. In addition to that, my friend is not likely to assign me tasks that I may be uncomfortable with.
Set goals and strive to achieve them. An unordered work is just like no work done. I will often take what I ought to do and prioritize the tasks. From the priorities, I will define concrete and measurable goals and allocate time appropriately for each task. Setting goals is an important aspect of management and with setting and achieving my goals, I can be confident that I can be the manager I aspire to be when the right time comes.
Keep track of time. Time is the most important commodity in one's life. I am no
exception. I will always keep in mind that time is money, once lost, I can never recover it. In ensuring that my time is put to proper use, I will be analyzing my situations at a different time in the day and keep a time log of all the activities that I do. The collected data will help me understand how efficient I am using my time. I will know where I am losing my time and look for better things to do. Keeping time will also be a major activity once I am a manager.
Take care of my health. I want to be happy both in my personal and career life. But I will achieve neither if my health is deteriorating. Maybe I am the best manager in the world and my business cash in billions of money each day, and yet, I am managing everything from my dying bed. This will be entirely useless to me. Therefore, I will always ensure that my health is right by eating healthy meals, exercise regularly and have adequate sleep each day.
Keep a scrupulous schedule. A successful person plans his/her work and works according to his plan. A schedule is a vehicle that drives you through the day and makes you achieve your goals. I will set aside some time, either early in the morning or just before I sleep to plan the activities for the new day.
Establish and keep boundaries. I will set a realistic and fair limits on what I can or cannot do at various places and clearly communicate them to my supervisor, family, and coworkers. For example, I can commit myself to not
working late unless there is an emergency. Or, I can clearly state that in any situation that I can be found in and I feel that it is ethically uncomfortable, I am not obligated to perform any task under such a circumstance and no matter the consequences, I will always follow my gut. With this clearly stated, my co-workers or even my supervisor may be obligated to respect my demands and avoid involving me in situations that I am not comfortable in. Make time for me. As much as relationships, work and health may take a better part of my time; it is crucial that I have time for my renewal.
Some time for myself will help me connect to my spiritual source. At this time of mine, I can ask my God, for inspiration and guidance. This is the time that I will reflect on what I have done, where I have wronged others and need to apologize, and what I need to do. I believe that someone has his own time away from everything, he can build himself all around and his/her relationships and career can benefit too.
Leave work at work. I would like to have a transition between my work life and my home life. The idea of other people mixing their work and family is not great. It means that at one time, they will carry their emotions from one point to the other, and may affect the parties involved. It is essential to develop an automatic mental on-off switch between home and work. Schelling my activities comes handy too as it may help prevent the ten minutes extension in office that
may transform to several hours.
Exercising my options. Looking at a coin from both sides is essential. If in my career I have more than one option for solving a particular problem, I will evaluate the options keenly to come up with the best solution. For example, we can propose a program in the firm for flexible hours, job-sharing or part-time employment. By keen evaluation, I may find an arrangement that will enable me to be more productive while at the same time freeing up more personal time and cutting stress.
Know when to Ask for help. When I am overwhelmed by work in the office or any other place, I will not allow myself to suffer in silence. I will explain my situation to my superior or coworkers and help me complete the job. Working under stress sometimes leads to poor work. Likewise, if I am experiencing any health issues, or chronic stress I will talk to a professional that is; a clergy person, health worker, or counselor to figure out the problem I am having.
My goal: Be part of the team, which strives for the better growth of the organization and which explores my potential and provides me with the opportunity to enhance my talent with an intention of being an asset to the company while maintaining a healthy relationship with my family and friends.
My goal is crucial to my life's success because it carries all my dreams and everything I have ever wanted to be. That is, successful in life, both monetary and family terms. It's split into two parts that go hand in hand, my relationship and my job. As a manager of
a certain company, that is the result of achieving the goal, people will always look at me not only from my office success but also family success. If I am successful family-wise and job-wise, other people can be motivated to be their manager. Achieving my goal will enable me to not only have happiness in my life, but also respect for family, friends and the society at large.
Obtain a challenging management position applying management and creative problem-solving skills with a growing company to achieve maximum profits and utilization of its resources. To maintain a good relationship with my workmates and family.
As a manager in a challenging position, for I to obtain the required level of efficiency, I will have to exploit my potential and talents fully. With sufficient support and hard work of the team members and me, we will achieve more for our organization and help it grow. Maintaining a healthy relationship will ensure I am in good terms with my team as well as having a loving and caring family back at home, with that, I could have achieved my goals.
