Importance of Diversity in Education

Embracing diversity in an educational organization is important as it promotes both students' academic achievement and employees’ job performance. Groton, (2012) explains that educational leaders have the responsibility of ensuring that all the activities within the educational system promoted the achievement of the organizational goals. Most schools have the vision of embracing diversity so as to build up one single community.

Therefore, to achieve their visions, leaders ought to focus towards the development of various diversity management policies and practices (Walter & Dimmock, 2002). Some of the practices include diverse guidelines during enrollment of students and recruitment of employees. Promoting diversity in a school may involve the development of activities that tend to bring all members together. For instance, the curriculum can be designed such that teachers are given the opportunity to teach on various cultural and religious dynamics. In this way, students can be able to debate about the misconceptions and as a result, learn from one another.

It is agreeable that resolving conflicts that arise due to differences in cultural, religious beliefs, can be achieved through the initiation of activities such as debates, workshops and presentations where students express their views towards one another but at the end realize the importance of living and learning together in unity. By adopting diversity management practices as a strategy, educational institutions will be able to maximize the diversity benefits and provide solutions to the challenges that may arise.
