Laws are rules that bind all individuals living in society. The basic motivation behind the law in human culture is the advancement or accomplishment of social order. Lawful standards contain a framework that is proposed to guide human conduct to a desirable end. Laws are important for any given society as the presence of a legal framework will control how individuals operate their lives. The law is critical in the society as it is an absolute necessity for a society to be problem-free and peaceful. If there were no laws in society, then individuals could do anything they wished, a situation known as anarchy. Without laws, there will not be a society to reside in as individuals will base their decisions solely on their principles. The right to a nationality is a fundamental right for every individual. The right enables each person to acquire, retain and change a nationality. However, people without a nationality spend their lives without this legal identity and the protections and benefits it affords. An unregistered person does not officially exist. On an individual level, this can complicate issues for them. For example, the lack of a nationality for children can complicate their enrollment in school and expose them to trafficking, unlawful adoption, involvement in criminal activities and prostitution. Absence of an entire enlistment framework implies that administration, not knowing the exact number of its residents, is hampered in planning for their requirements.

Torture, whether mental or physical aims to annihilate the individual personality of the victim while stripping them of the inherent right to be human. The United Nations has censured torture from the start as one of the most disgusting acts perpetrated by individuals on their kindred beings. According to the international law, torture is a crime regardless of whether the individual state has their legislation to legalize it. The act of perpetrating this vice is prohibited since it constitutes an express crime against humanity.

Torture regards the victim as an unfortunate means to an end as opposed to viewing them as human beings. Victims of torture are regarded as things and therefore not accorded the dignity fit for human beings. The perpetrators of this act explicitly

dehumanize their victims to make them susceptible to their means. Most often than not, bodily harm is afflicted to achieve the cause, leading to long-lasting scars, not only physically but also mentally.

The main reason why torture is employed is to obtain information from individuals. Torture in itself is an ineffective means of achieving information since victims will eventually admit to anything hoping to escape the pain. The interrogators will never be sure whether the information they obtain is valid or not, rendering the method ineffective.

The individuals that perpetrate torture are likely to be haunted by their horrid actions and often desensitized to humanity. Torture also plays a great role in damaging the reputation of the institutions that engage in this malpractice. Their reputation is damaged while their moral authority is consequently undermined. Engaging in torture is most likely to cause internal dissent and subsequently, destroy the integrity of the institution. Participating in activities bordering towards torture also provides ammunition to enemies of the state who rely on propaganda to achieve their goals.
