He felt that his chance to meet the right errors was probably missed because he didn't pay attention while standing in a dry cleaning line. Alex stumbles, and romantically tells Isabella "that she is everything he never knew he always wanted, and it has something to do with the rest of his life and they should get married right away".

They marry that evening in a gaudy Vegas chapel, with an Elvis impersonator as a witness, and check into a honeymoon suite at one of the casinos. Problems soon arise as Isabella finds out that Alex really lives in Manhattan.

Ale's parents were told by a lifelong friend to visit Alex. They thought hat Isabella Is Ale's very good housekeeper. They soon learn that she Is actually their new daughter-in-law. More cultural clashes go off when the couple took all four parents boating on Lake Mead, leading to culture clashes and arguments about whose kid Is at fault for this fiasco.

Isabella can sense that Alex Is not the marrying kind and she lies to him by telling him that she had a miscarriage to release him of remind him of Isabella. He was served with divorce papers while there and has 6 days to contest it.

He realizes that Isabella was a loving person and he tries to find err. Isabella has left to spend some time with her grandmother in Mexico, and

it is during this time that her grandmother convinces her to return and find Alex and tell him her true feelings for him.

Alex goes to the Hoover Dam knowing that Isabella would be returning from Mexico. He runs into the middle of the road to stop her. They back up traffic and it is raining outside. He professes her love to her and she informs him that her water has broke.

Isabella ends up having the baby delivered by paramedics on the side of the road.

As they are in the ambulance to go to the capital, they both realize that the 6 days have passed and they are now divorced. The movie ends with them on top of a mountain getting married in front of their family and friends. Reaction My primary reaction to the film was that it was a very lighthearted, comical, yet still a very emotional love story. The setting, the characterization, and the cultural differences between Alex and Isabella were evident to be sure, and most certainly were the driving theme in the movie, but to me the differentiation was used only as a basis for the storyline itself.

In spite of several scenes where the cultural differences ere traumatized, I never got the feeling that the film had an agenda, or that one group or the other were specifically stereotyped intentionally as a means to portray a culture in a negative manner. Although the characters themselves were very rooted within their own origins and cultures, the writers were able to portray each of them in a very positive light, never leaving the audience with the impression that one

culture was better than the other. There were many scenes in the movie where the cultures of each character were highlighted.

The supporting roles were a very critical art of the storytelling in these scenes. However, I was more struck by the scenes where each character lied to the other in an effort to protect themselves or their partner from harm or pain. Each situation was slightly different, but the central theme was to demonstrate the weaknesses of each character as their relationship developed and unfolded.

Ironically, it turned out to be characters from their own background that allowed both Alex and Isabella to see the error of their ways. The ability of the writers to create an emotional connection to each character in this way as excellent.

I never felt that one character was pitted against the other in any way especially when the plot turned as a result of the lying by each person. Interpretation To me, this film takes on the differences between cultures in a completely fun and engaging way. The characters could not be more different at the beginning, yet by the end they could not be more similar with respect to one another. Multicultural from different races, especially when comparing specific ethnicities to generic "American culture".

What makes the movie's story a success is that it accepts the fact hat there are differences between these cultures.

Consequently, it allows the moviegoer to think more about the story than race or ethnicity itself. Rather than making the differences in cultures the focus of the plot, or a competition as to which is better, it takes the positive aspects from each

culture and embraces them to their fullest in order to provide the background for the overall story. Additionally, after watching the film, I never felt as if I was being given a "message" by the film-makers.

Although the movie is less than 15 years old, I did not see an undercurrent of literally correct narrative that is prevalent in many movies seen in recent years.

They didn't try to shadow or hide the true ethnicity of each culture in a cloud of misrepresentation. As a result, I was left with constructive and lasting impressions regarding the characters themselves, the positive aspects of their respective cultures, how their ethnicities positively impacted the relationship, and how their relationship progressed throughout the movie. Application I would use this film in my teaching on social related studies and activities to monster to students how the cultural differences in people's history, background, and ethnicity can be embraced by people from different races.

Rather than be skeptical or afraid of those that appear different, we can learn from everyone regardless of their heritage. Instead of accepting stereotypical behavior at face value or with an assumed outcome based only on perceptions, we can see that once we get to know someone, in many ways people aren't very different at all. The film manages to take on this rather difficult task in a very modest and non-threatening manner that is very suitable to a wide range of age groups.
