The novel “The Circuit” began in El Rancho Blanco, Mexico, then continues to California. They travel many places in California because they have come to the United States illegally. The characters are Papa, Mama, Roberto, Panchito, Trampita, Ruben, and Rorra. The basic situation is: the family has always wanted to move to California thinking that they will get a better life, but instead end up getting worse, and being taken by La migra. That is “The Circuit” exposition. The stories central problem is how they move a lot being illegal immigrants. They face many conflicts like when the baby gets ill and they do not have money for anything.

ces just to get more work, it is a struggle to move from a place because just as you get used to one place, then move away, and do it over again it gets frustrating. The cycle continues throughout the book, it is putting a pressure or struggle on Panchito, and probably the rest of his family. The problem first began when they are in Mexico and they start the journey to California that they have always talked about. They head to California to find work. They first start Papa's Carcachita.

The kids including Panchito, are all anxious for the trip; but they don't know what is in store for them. The moving is a great conflict in the story, that is where the problem first began. The outcome was when the boys were at school and La migra was there to pick them up. Panchito was

at school ready to say the speech to Ms. Ehlis. Then all of the sudden Panchito sees the green uniform for La migra and panics. Ms. Ehlis directs them to Panchito, they pick him up, and head for his brother Roberto. They can not stay for long without getting caught. You would predict they will be taken now because of that horrible, scary event.

The events that follow the climax and final outcome are very close to the end. The first event is when La migra shows up and starts taking people. Papa and Mama told them La migra was there in California, they are okay for now. When Panchito was studying for The Declaration of Independence in Ms. Ehlis's class that day La migra goes to the school and the boys are called out of class. The author does not tell the reader what happens next. The reader is left to believe the family is taken back to Mexico. Author's Purpose The author's purpose for this novel is to show how it feels to be in Francisco's shoes during the time.

To show what he and his family went through. When they get taken by immigration, when they move so much, and the stress that boy was put through showed that was his purpose. He wrote this book to share it with the world. He wants to show how he felt about the move, how it feels to be an immigrant worker crossing the border, and how everyone felt in his family by showing their actions and what they felt during that time. The part of the book that was exciting to me was when the

baby got sick. It put me on the edge of the line by keeping me thinking and worried about the baby.

What is going to happen to him, what is going to happen next? Is Torito going to be alright? Miracle in Tent City, when the baby got sick was very interesting, and kept me excited until the end of the chapter; until the end of the baby's sickness. Torito was the first born baby in the book, he is important throughout the story. What I would change in the plot of the story is when he is in the classroom and La migra comes to get him and his brother. If the story wasn't a real story the author would probably write a happy ending and that is what I would change it to be. I would change only the Falling Action of the plot.

It would go something like this: After the bell rang and everyone was seated, Miss Ehlis began to take roll. Then after she took roll she started calling names in alphabetical order to say the Declaration of Independence. After numerous students, she called the students to say it to her independently. A couple of students were called and then it was my turn. I began to walk up and started to say it to Miss Ehlis: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness . . . She smiled at me and said I did well, she gave me an 99%, I accepted the

great score and returned to my seat.

I then knew that everything will be okay, and if La migra does come one day; all that matters is that my family and I are together. They take us all to the same place, so I know for sure we will always be together. The reason I would even change the ending is because I would want a happy ending for poor Francisco and his family. Readers want a happy ending for the family that went through so much throughout the story. The reader wants a happy ending for Francisco's family because it makes the story more interesting.

It always makes us smile, and happiness is a good feeling; that is why we like happy endings. When the original ending of La migra taking them was sad, it was so sudden, and we did not expect it that way. I did like the book for it's sudden ending, it surprised me. That is why I would change the ending of The Circuit, I would change the ending for that happy feeling we get when we see the people we got interested to have a ending full of happiness. The main theme is was how hard it was living in the U. S illegally. It was hard for them because they had to move from place to place.

They get used to one home, then leave again. It is also hard for them because they never have a real home, always afraid of getting caught, and not having any real friends. That would all make it hard for anyone to live an easy life. They never have a real home because

they are always leaving so many. They are always afraid of getting caught because they do not want to go back to mexico or be separated. They do not have real friends because they can never trust any of the friends they make, one fo their friends could tell immigration or La migra about them.

Those problems with living in the U. S illegally makes it very hard for them. That is the main theme of “The Circuit”. Characters The characters in the novel “The Circuit” are Panchito (the main character), Roberto (Panchito's brother), Papa, Mama, Torito, Ruben, Trampita, and Rorra. Panchito is the main character because he is the narrator and the one we learn about most throughout the story, Panchito is the second child who learns a lot throughout the story, he becomes stronger; the entire family does, and is a very skilled worker.

Roberto is the oldest and first child who takes care of the rest of the younger brothers and sisters, him and Panchito show a good brother relationship in the story, and Roberto will never let the rest of his family down. Papa works very hard for the entire family, he can't stop working or else he will feel like he is failing as a father. Mama takes care of everyone in the family such as feeding them, cheering them up, and caring for them completely. Torito is the fourth child who gets very sick two months after birth, he stays alive by some great miracle, and is very important in the family's conflicts to make them stronger.

Ruben is the fifth child in the family and he increases the family's love and

faith that they will be okay. Trampita is the third child who Panchito had to take care many times, Trampita is an important character for all of his encouragement. Rorra is the sixth child in the family, she is an important character because she takes Panchito's special coins, then spends them at the grocery store, and that almost makes him lose all faith. Those characters made the story and without them the story would not be a story, their family is the main character (they are all the main characters).
