As he notices that Paula is “getting serious” he takes her to his parents house to dump her, because that is how he dumps all of his other girlfriends who begin to become serious, but Paula is determined to make him leave his parents house, so she does not react to the fact he is living with his parents.

As the film goes on and Tripp figures out Paula’s little scheme, his psychological dimension hits in again and makes him not want to leave his parents house. His traumatic experience with Paula made it even worse for him to move out as he tells her “you're moving in with me”. But as the end of the film comes in and Tripp and Paula’s friends force them in a room together, Tripp realises that he has fallen in love with Paula and this makes all the other dimensions in his life fit in perfectly for him to move out. He is finally emotionally mature and is ready to make his cultural-sociological dimension adjust and get into a serious relationship.

The old saying: "Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime." applies in a similar way to Tripp as a young adult. His parents give him everything he needs, his mom cooks, cleans, does his laundry, and pays the bill! So why would he want to move out? His mother doesn’t show him how to do any chores until she meets Paula whom tells her to make Tripp do all his chores and give

him responsibility, that way he will move out.

Separation from the family of origin is best accomplished when the family can let go, so that the young adult and the parents can begin the next stage of life (Holloway,2013). In this case Tripp’s mom and dad are ready to move on to the next stage in life whereas he is not. Tripp is dependent on his parents for everything and does not want to commit to a long lasting relationship, because he does not sort out emotionally what he would take along from the family, and what he will create for himself. Every time he goes into a relationship and the girl starts to get serious he just doesn’t commit and breaks up with her. The only friends he has are Demo and nerdy Ace who also live with their parents, and this doesn’t encourage him to move out. The only thing he does have however is a job yet he only uses it to his advantage and not for a future relationship.

As Tripp’s parents start to give him chores and let him do everything independently which eventually doesn’t last very long, he decides to let go of Paula by breaking up with her but that doesn’t work very well, because he finds out about Paula and his parents plan.

When Tripp finally accepts his parents decision for wanting him to move out and he finally falls in love with Paula (after being tied to a chair), Tripp is ready to commit to a real relationship and not have too much worries about his previous fiance death. After so much struggle

to make Tripp launch out of the house, he is finally ready to be emotionally independent and develop a new intimate relationship.
