Introduced in the U.S. Senate in August 2001, the DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act) aims to grant conditional or permanent residency to undocumented immigrants living in the United States. The bill encompasses multiple phases (Kim 55-58).
This bill has been reintroduced multiple times in the Senate House but failed to be passed. Supporters argue it will bring about social and economic advancements without granting amnesty. Conversely, critics contend that not only will it reward undocumented individuals, but also incentivize more illegal immigrants, leading to fraud and protecting gang members from deportation. One requirement for obtaining permanent residency is attending a higher education institution for two years after obtaining conditional residency. ...als to earn a degree. Acquiring legal residence status is highly beneficial, providing motivation for students in higher education to strive for a degree, ultimately improving their lives and increasing tax revenue.
With federal support, DREAMers can access high-quality education, which will enable them to secure better jobs in the country. This will not only improve their living standards and working environment but also contribute to the economic growth by generating more taxes and revenue through their salaries.
Furthermore, residents will have access to top-notch services that will help enhance diversity and decrease high school dropouts, while also boosting university enrollment. This will ultimately lead to the creation of compassionate and well-educated students. It is evident that a considerable number of undocumented individuals in America entered the country unlawfully as a result of employers providing job prospects.
To achieve
a comprehensive Immigration Reform, it is crucial to implement internal reforms and enforce strict penalties on employers involved in illegal alien activity. This measure will bolster the country's security (Wojnarowski). By ensuring these employers are held responsible for their actions, it will diminish the number of undocumented individuals. Effectively managing illegal entry will ultimately result in fewer undocumented individuals and support the bill's overall objective.
However, critics argue that this point is invalid, claiming that new people migrating to the United States will render it inapplicable. They believe that the competition for available resources will decrease. Nonetheless, it is important to ensure that the Immigration Policy does not undermine the rights of impoverished undocumented citizens. It is crucial to provide them with opportunities and equal privileges, allowing them to enhance their working conditions and wages.
Attending higher education institutions can provide a pathway for undocumented individuals to obtain permanent residency. It is important for the government to protect these individuals from discrimination until they gain legal residency status. Upon graduating, students should be given visas that allow them to contribute to the country's economy and ensure their safety within it.
By including this suggestion in the act, the overall efficiency of the Government in achieving the objectives of the DREAM Act bill can be enhanced. Additionally, it can contribute to the development of the United States Economy by increasing revenue from degree holders.
