The world is becoming more and more digitized with a growing shift to online training and learning. Online learning has become a fundamental part of the society with a significant number of people captivated by the internet as an ideal method of obtaining information. It encourages innovative ways of learning as well as storing information online and also making learning effective as compared to the traditional learning methods. Alongside the good things that online learning offers, it also has some drawbacks. This essay focuses on discussing the strengths and limitations of Khan Academy as one of the online learning tool as well as the theories behind it.

Information theory is published by Khan Academy comprising videos for an elementary introduction to the discipline of information. It studies the broadcast, processing, operation, and extraction of information. This theory is a profound and a comprehensive mathematical theory with correspondingly broad and deep application. It is also used in retrieval of information, intellect gathering, gambling, and statistics among others (Dijksman & Khan, 2011).

Khan Academy Strengths

Khan Academy is free and available and costs totally nothing to watch videos and work on problems. It is accessible anywhere where there is internet. A wide variety of subjects is offered like videos about mathematics, environmental science, chemistry, and physical science.

Repetition is one of the best methods to learn and the more one handles a variety of problems, the more one becomes acquainted with them as well as using the patterns that are recognizable as a template for resolving future problems. Additionally, each problem is as well accompanied by its own solution therefore, one can break it down step by step (Prensky, 2011).

Khan Academy Limitations

Despite being a beneficial digital learning proposal tool, Khan Academy also has a number of limitations. It is somewhat less interactive comparing with having a face to face tutor. When dealing with a physical tutor, one gets instant feedback and also one is able to express thoughts and views. With Khan Academy videos, there is no that interactivity. It only gives instructions and does not guide one to come to a solution individually. An important part of education is not only learning the materials but also being capable of generating the ideas as well as executing them. Being in the classroom aids one to bounce off the ideas as well as working together. One might learn a new way of thinking about something or assist one another in building common knowledge, skills, strength and flaws. Khan Academy loses the collective aspect of education. In conclusion, khan Academy is great for homeschooling students since every topic is available online, the content is organized depending on the grade levels, and also, there are almost countless practice problems. A student is able to work through a specific grade level that is laid out by a topic that they need assistance. It also permits students to select the topics that they are interested in. Khan Academy also has some critiques in that when someone is struggling with a topic, one may not know where to begin. A lot of knowledge is required to understand the videos. Also, there is no instant feedback and if there is any question, there is no person to elaborate. Despite all the limitations, Khan Academy is one of the best learning tools that provide an inspiration for learners to break the classical means of learning through use of technology.
