This is a career fair for graduates leaving University or higher learning institutions in New York City. A program made particularly to help or provide graduates with information such as career advice, job market, requirements and how to apply for jobs, etc. It was started and funded courtesy of concerned leaders from the ministry of education as well as Universities and higher learning institutions in New York City. The main reason as to why the program was started was to find both a short-term and long-term solution to the ever rising unemployment rate in the city and even the country at large, despite being already educated and ready for the job market.

It received a positive reception from other Universities, the public and the government, especially the education ministry. The event is now an annual event that is hosted at City Hall every year, but due to rising number of attendees yearly, the organizers might be forced to change the venue in the coming years.

To provide world class information and career advice as well as basic information on the job market to graduating, so as to support individual transformation, innovation, and sustainable global development.

  • There is a slow but steady rise of graduates in the New York City, and it is for this reason that I decided to focus and base my research on both primary and secondary research so as to obtain sufficient information on the same. The career fair program was started with the aim of bettering the lives of graduates in several Universities and higher learning institutions, but due to the positive feedback that was a result of the program, the target market has slowly been changing and increasing within the years.

    Some of the target markets include:

    1. Freshly graduated students from all universities and higher learning institutions in New York City. These are the initial reason for the creation of this program; it was meant to

    expose them job opportunities and also provide for them more career advice.

  • Graduates from other universities and higher learning institutions in different cities around the country. This was as a result of the positive feedback from New York City; the program’s target market had to increase far beyond just New York City.
  • Parents and guardians. This program was also meant to enable parents to have the knowledge and information that would enable them to help their children make proper decisions regarding their careers and future lives, whether employed or not.
  • Companies and organizations. Another reason why the program was started was to expose graduates to organizations for employment. The organizations also have the opportunity to hire well-trained graduates, first hand and fresh from university. Such young generations and brains are good to escalate the desirable goals of an institution.
  • High schools around the country. Career development is something that should be slowly nurtured in students so that as they grow and advance in education, they have a brighter picture of what they want exactly, and for which reasons.
  • The New York City foundation planning to host a new and improved career fair for the fourth year running, with the aim of obtaining good results from the event and making it even better. Here is the New York City foundation’s SWOT analysis:

    • Strength: The foundation is well-known and has a good reputation both locally and internationally, having hosted almost a handful of similar events that produced positive results.
    • Weaknesses: As much as there are local or native students who attend the event and benefit from it, there is quite a number of them that might not be

    interested in settling or working in New York City or the USA at large, and would rather go back to seek opportunities in their native countries.

  • Opportunities: The rate at which the foundation has been growing is quite encouraging just like the results are. The positive feedback and results attract more investors and supporters to join the foundation, which means covering larger areas or even going far beyond borders to help graduates and students, (Lamb, Hair & McDaniel, 2012).
  • Threats: Emergence of different foundations with different goals and motives that are not at all related to boosting career knowledge, (Ross, 2015).

    This involves an analysis of the political, economic, social and technological factors in the external environment of an organization which affects its activities and performance (Jurevicius, 2013).

    • Political Analysis: The New York City foundation faces challenges, especially when it comes to education laws, the fact that the government does not give equal rights and priorities to international students means that as soon as they complete their education, they go and seek jobs elsewhere they have a better chance.
    • Economic factors: The foundation gives sufficient knowledge to graduates, enough to give them a desirable job, but some still end up jobless because of the lack of opportunities. The government only cannot be able to provide employment for everyone, and that’s where the private sector has to come in and support sustainable growth of the economy by employing graduates, (Ramaswamy & Namakumari, 2009).
    • Social factors: The New York City Foundation seeks to help graduates voluntarily, but cannot help them if they are not willing to be helped. Some graduates, especially those with a negative attitude

    end up not gaining from such a program. This, in turn, adds to the failure or downfall of such foundations.

  • Technological factors: The lack of access to new technology is a limiting factor in career growth since it means lagging behind in terms of information concerning different things, among them, being, job advertisements. Employers nowadays want people who are up-to-date with the latest technologies so as to avoid inconveniences at work, (Rao, Rao & Sivaramakrishna, 2008).
  • The New York City foundation is aimed at becoming the world’s leading career fair in New York City, the USA and all over the world. It provides free services graduates and students from New York City, but charge a small ticket fee for those from other cities, states, and countries. This is a goal that has been set to be achieved in a period of about 20 to 25 years within this period, provide quality services to the residents of New York and the USA at large.

    The New York Foundation career fair has the following approaches to pricing, promotion, and advertisements, distribution and customer service, towards the achievement of its goals.

    • Pricing: The pricing scheme is based on charging a small entrance fee for students who are not New City residents, and totally free for those who are residents. There will also be a discount for the first fifty people to get to the venue.
    • Distribution: The services offered by the organization will be well distributed to all participants during the event.
    • Advertisements and Promotions: There will be several different methods for promotion and advertisement ranging from burners, flyers, newspaper advertisements, television and radio advertisements, social media, etc, (Abrams, 2003)
  • Customer service: One of the things that have made this foundation thrive over the years is exemplary customer service they offer.
