The initial advertisement that we observed was Jaguar's latest ad campaign. This advertisement is challenging to portray because it lacks a coherent storyline and structure.

The advertisement features women dancing in nightmarish settings against a bleak wooden backdrop with a winding tree. These unsettling images are interspersed with scenes of the Jaguar driving through vast countryside and an unclear storyline. The montage is presented at a fast pace, with 32 frames shown in the 30-second advertisement, creating a rate of more than one frame per second. Accompanying the visuals is Chris Isaac's haunting 'Wicked Game,' a song about undesired love.

The manufacturer's updated image for the car is showcased in an ad that portrays it as fierce and alluring. Lyrics from the song "And I don't want to fall in love with you" are featured. Jaguar and Skoda commercials have different objectives, w

ith Jaguar targeting younger customers while Skoda aims to redefine its brand association with older, less fashion-conscious drivers. The narrative of the Skoda commercial centers around an overweight driver who represents the stereotype of an older driver wearing unfashionable clothes. The message is clear as the archetype reacts fearfully to how much the car has improved and is being chauffeured by a salesperson. This highlights Skoda's cutting-edge qualities which contradict its outdated reputation of yore.

The Skoda driver appears uneasy with the car's advancement. Although he agrees to drive, he abruptly disembarks from the passenger seat and sprints across a field. This comical portrayal of a stereotypical overweight individual running through open terrain serves as a memorable takeaway for viewers, promoting word-of-mouth marketing and potentially boosting car sales. In contrast to the Jaguar ad

which emphasizes sophistication, the Skoda commercial highlights the car's comedic appeal.

The Jaguar ad implies that its car is popular and sophisticated, making it stand out from the rest. Buying this car will gain respect and popularity. In contrast, the Skoda ad portrays the "old" Skoda model as unfashionable, with drivers depicted as stereotypical, old-fashioned, glasses-wearing, and unkempt. The new Skoda model is presented as a way to break away from the crowd and create an individual identity. The ads also differ in their narrative strategies.

The Skoda advert utilizes a clear storyline through a conversation between the Salesperson and potential customers to convey the point that the car has dramatically improved in terms of quality and performance. Nonetheless, "which for some, is still a problem," as certain individuals still believe that Skodas are unreliable and unfashionable. In contrast, the Jaguar advert presents an abstract narrative that symbolizes the message of the piece using lyrics from the song "What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way". This indicates that the purchaser does not intend to fall in love with the car or give in to temptation to buy it. However, temptation ultimately wins, and they end up purchasing the vehicle. The adverts' narratives create a divergent interpretation for viewers, leading to differing opinions of the cars in question.

The Skoda advert delivers a clear message with its plain and simple approach. It suggests that while Skoda cars have made strides in development, some individuals still hold onto outdated perceptions. The advert's narrative makes it easy to draw this conclusion. In contrast, the Jaguar advert is more complex and requires a detailed

analysis to form opinions. It appears that the makers aim to attract a new audience by showcasing the car's sleek, sexy appearance as a symbol of status. The advert successfully communicates this message using imagery of provocatively dressed women both inside and on top of the car.

My view is that cars represent social status, and the new sleek and sporty appearance of Jaguars will attract people of all ages who have the financial means to purchase them. Advertisements primarily target those in their late thirties or above, but it's unclear whether they are aimed at a specific gender. Younger individuals in their twenties typically cannot afford a Jaguar, so the company may be trying to appeal to this audience. The Skoda advertisement depicts only men, which may suggest that women would also be interested in purchasing this car or that it is designed specifically for men.

It seems to me that the Skoda advert targets a specific audience of no-nonsense male drivers in their 30s to 40s, who are unperturbed by the brand's 'old' image and want a vehicle displayed as it is without any fancy embellishments. Meanwhile, the Jaguar advert presents an ambiguous message that could be interpreted in two ways - both appealing to men. Firstly, it suggests that purchasing the car could make men attractive to women like those depicted in the advert; alternatively, it implies that women who buy the car could potentially look like the women featured. However, it does include a female driver to show that women can also drive this luxury car. Overall, the advert aims to attract a wealthy audience with its depiction of opulent parties and

expensive, perhaps designer clothing worn by the models.

In my opinion, both adverts were successful. However, I believe that the Jaguar advert was the more memorable piece as it made me think. This could be attributed to the lack of narrative, as it required me to formulate my own views and opinions on the advert. Although the Skoda advert was good, it was comparatively simple and didn't leave as much of an impression. Additionally, the use of a haunting yet memorable song by Chris Isaak in the Jaguar advert made me remember it more vividly. Every time I hear the song, I am reminded of the advert and the Jaguar, potentially influencing my decision to purchase one, if I were able to drive.
