Introduction
On this year 2009, year of our Lord, we gather, remember, reflect, and celebrate as CBCP and CEAP, guided by the theme: Hold it in Trust – Leadership as Stewardship. We firmly believe in the outpouring of God’s abundant grace. May the Spirit of Discernment come upon us and stir our hearts and lead us to communal acts of stewardship for the transformation of our beloved country, and for the world. An opening Eucharistic celebration officiated by His Eminence, Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, Archbishop of Manila, will usher in the National Convention, which will be keynoted by His Excellency, Most Rev. Edward Joseph Adams, D.
D. , Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines, will be speaking at the convention, which includes a panel discussion on the spirituality of stewardship, a forum with national leaders, concurrent workshop sessions, panel discussions, and product fairs and exhibit
...s. Additionally, resolutions made at the convention include the desire to cooperate and actively participate in the development of the national language program of the Commonwealth, the promotion of Catholic Action by member-schools of the Association, and the endorsement for the creation of a textbook commission for the Association. The Archbishop urged convention delegates to remember that the main goal of Catholic educators is to teach youth about religion.
Catholic educators emphasize the importance of Catholic action, which involves the laity participating in the apostolate of the Hierarchy. The goal is to ensure active involvement from all laypeople. Sister Candida Ocampo, Directress of Sta. Isabel Academy, discussed the objectives of CEAP as a Catholic Association and emphasized its responsibility to represent and protect the interests of Catholic educational institutions within the Department of
Public Instruction. Any obstacles that hinder these objectives must be strongly opposed through appropriate channels. It is also crucial not only to maintain current accomplishments but also progress alongside civilization by proposing methods for improving instructional approaches, particularly in refining religious and ethical sentiments while giving priority to cultural and academic training.
Conclusion
The convention concluded with delegates endorsing a proposal for a new curriculum for elementary, high school, and collegiate institutions based on a six-three-three plan.
The proposal, which has been agreed upon by the Association members, suggests that students should spend six years in elementary school, three years in high school, and three years in college. This plan will be put into action starting from the next school year. However, there is a conflict with the Department of Public Instruction's use of the quarterly system because they plan to introduce a semester-based program instead. CEAP is a voluntary organization that operates through regional educational associations in all 16 regions of the country.
The CEAP, representing Catholic educational institutions, works to promote unity and collaboration with other organizations in education. It supports members, especially those in mission areas, in achieving shared and individual objectives. The CEAP is dedicated to advancing and strengthening the teaching role of the Catholic Church. It contributes to the overall development of individuals through a Catholic perspective aligned with Church norms and national development goals expressed in the Philippine Constitution.
