Each member of the group began collaborating the evidence with the suspect list.

Then, there was a slight shift in Deborah’s participation from a low participator to a higher participator, when she discovered that her briefing had a missing piece of information that the rest of the group was looking for. Once this information was discovered, the group decided to have one member of the group read the briefing out loud as the other members followed along. If there was a discrepancy the reader would stop. Trisha and Trina seemed to be the group members that kept the ball rolling on this part by taking turns reading the briefing while the other members compared notes.

Although, it seemed Deborah was a lower, quieter participator, her silence was respected by the other group members because the group knew she was studying and reading the briefing carefully. The overall verbal participation for the group was great. Randy, Trisha, Trina, Cynthia and Deborah all did a good job communicating with each other individually and as a group. This second element this paper will look at, in regards to group dynamics for the Murder One group activity, is task functions. It seemed apparent that the group wanted to complete the task of solving the murder in an efficient and timely manner.

The behavior of each member of the

group was a strong indication that the group wanted to get the job done in determining who the killer was. Once the group discovered that each member had different pieces of information in the briefings, Randy asked the group how to proceed from here. Trina and Trisha both spoke up and suggested that a member should read the briefing given them while the others followed along and compared notes. This was very helpful in getting the job done for the group. The group stayed on target and did not jump from topic to topic.

It was important to each member of the group to stay focused and solve the murder case given. Cynthia and Trisha both lead in summarizing the group findings each time they marked another suspect off the list. At times, each one would call off the suspects they had already marked off as a way to clarify the findings of the group. Each member of the group spoke freely with ideas and opinions found beneficial to completing the task at hand. The group searched diligently for the solution to the Murder One group activity. The third and final element to analyze is that of group atmosphere.

The atmosphere is important when working with any group and the general atmosphere of this group was friendly and congenial. Not one member of this group wanted an atmosphere that was negative or conflicting. Randy, Trisha, Trina, Deborah and Cynthia all worked together to create a very positive non combative atmosphere for the group. The group wanted an atmosphere that would produce a positive outcome and therefore decided to participate and use the appropriate language to do so.

Time did not permit any of the members of the group to annoy or provoke other members of the group.

The atmosphere of this group was one of taking flight. Each member was very interested in finding out who the killer was which caused them to become very involved in solving the case. The atmosphere of the group helps to determine if the group can accomplish the task and with a positive working atmosphere this group was able to do just that. In conclusion, groups are used in organizations to help solve problems similar to the Murder One group activity. Randy, Cynthia, Trisha, Deborah and Trina all worked together in this group activity to determine which suspect was guilty of murder.

The members of this group were not afraid to participate verbally by given suggestions and ideas of what suspects to mark off the list. The group communicated well with each other in order to stay focused and complete the task given. The group also generated a positive working atmosphere that allowed them to come to an agreement on which the killer was. These three elements made up a dynamic group with a focused goal. As a group, Randy, Cynthia, Trisha, Deborah and Trina all worked well together in performing the task of singling out one suspect for the Murder One group activity.
