The great commission evolves back to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He instructed all his disciples to go all over the nations to disseminate the holy gospel, hence making new disciples. Scholars have taken their time to write much about the great commission and how current civilians try to achieve it. This essay will reflect on the characters contained in the two poems and how they strive to fulfill this commission.
“Stopping by woods on a snowy evening” by Robert frost
The poem revolves around a person travelling on a donkey, the outward journey to observe the nature which is the woods, is way of fulfilling the journey of sending the disciples to all parts to make new disciples. The darkest evening in this poem represents the lack of redemption of peo
...ple in the world; they need to come into light. Jesus main purpose of commissioning is to drive out the darkness (Frost, 2004).
The rider of the donkey feels more comforted to keep on with the journey on the snowy woods; this is indication of the fulfillment of the great commission to go onto the world. The last line of the poem talks of a promise to keep and this is a reference to the great commission, in this case is to explore the nature of the world.
The nature in this circumstance soothes the confused mind of the speaker. In salvation moving from the darkness to light is a way of redemption and having a new hope. According to Frost (2014), the shaking of the bells by the horse is a reminder that we have places to go and that is fulfilling the left promise of movin
to the whole world for redemption. We can’t just stand and watch the falling of snow, but there is work to be done and that is the great commission.
“God’s Grandeur” by Gerard Manley Hopkins
The first stanza highlights of the physical world and it’s this world that the great commission was to be achieved upon. The disciples were sent out where, Gods salvation runs through it like current, and brings the visibility in terms of flashes, which resemble the refracted glinting’s of light from metal foil when rumpled (Hopkins, 2004).
The salvation is present in that God’s presence is like rich oil which wells up to greatness on tapping with certain pressure. God’s purpose to save man is clear through his presence on the world upon which the disciples were sent.
The terrain in its state reflects God as the molder (Hopkins, 2004). The shoe we were is a relation between feet and the earth we leave on symbolizing gradual increase of spiritual neglect from nature. The nature isn’t reluctant to offer up its spiritual indices. This is seen in how the morning awaits the other side to be of dark night. This constant generation is due to God’s grace. Lastly, the Gods incubation, results to awed intuition and grace.
