sometimes harm multiple ecosystems at once. Another harmful impact are the various theories about these chemicals that are used. Some scientists have been researching and have discovered evidence that these pesticides are one of the many causes for global warming.

Global warming is a huge problem in modern society and if sometime such as the Green Revolution is causing it then that is a huge problem that should be dealt with. A country that was personally affected by the Green Revolution is Rwanda. Many African countries recently meted in Rwanda’s capital in hopes to bring back the Green Revolution to increase the economy of Rwanda and the other neighboring African countries. The countries came to an agreement that they would use methods from the agricultural revolution to improve the country’s agriculture. In Rwanda, the government emphasized that new agricultural jobs were opening up, and it brought a lot of families into a sustainable life and gave workers a stable job.

With many people going into this profession, it ended up booting the overall economy of Rwanda. And even with all these benefits, the government hasn’t noticed any unhealthy side-effects yet. With the Green Revolution, there comes a very common question. “Is the Green Revolution the solution to the world’s problems?” The answer to that is no, supported by multiple sources. A citation that supports this is “To maintain the green revolution, governments in developing countries must allocate scarce funds to subsidize the cost of seeds, fertilizers, and machinery”. This citation states that many developing countries transitioning over to new methods have to scrap up all the spare money that they have.

This isn’t a very efficient way of

transitioning and can even be harmful to the country. Another citation that supports this is “The Green Revolution has been criticized by environmentalists and others for resulting in environmental disasters in the countries where it was most effective.” (Oxford University Press 1). This citation states that scientists have discovered that environmental disasters have resulted from methods used in the Green Revolution. Environmental disasters have killed millions and it has destroyed civilizations. If a cause to those could be eliminated, that would be very beneficial. A final citation that supports this is “In Asia, it has been estimated that each 1% increase in crop productivity reduces the number of poor people by 0.48%.

In India, it is estimated that a 1% increase in agricultural value added per hectare leads to a 0.4% reduction in poverty in the short run and 1.9% reduction in the long run, the latter arising through the indirect effects of lower food prices and higher wages.” (PNAS 1). This citation shows that even though the Green Revolution may benefit the poor, but it really doesn’t make a huge difference in the big picture. For all the environmental sacrifices that humans make for the Green Revolution, it truly just isn’t worth it as a viable solution to the world’s problems.
