The White House Office is the oldest and most famous office in the United States. Located in the West Wing of The White House, it is home to many of the staff that assists President in managing his daily functions. The Office is responsible for providing a wide variety of services to the President, such as organizing meetings and events, assisting with policy development, managing media relations, coordinating foreign travel and visits from foreign dignitaries, drafting press releases and other public statements, preparing reports and briefings for Presidential decisions, monitoring political trends around the world, and ensuring that all Executive Branch offices are running efficiently. The White House Office was established by George Washington during his first term as President in 1789. It has since grown into an expansive office staffed by several hundred personnel who specialize in different areas of expertise. It currently consists of four main divisions: Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations; Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategy; Senior Advisor to the President; and Director of Public Engagement & Intergovernmental Affairs. Each division works together to ensure that all aspects of Presidential governance are properly coordinated among various departments within The White House complex itself, as well as with other Federal agencies across America. The Office also plays a key role in supporting The First Lady’s initiatives on behalf of important causes related to women’s rights and children’s health issues. In addition to its work at home within The White House complex itself, it works closely with foreign governments on matters such as trade negotiations or international crises response efforts. Finally, this office serves an important role when it comes time for a changeover between incoming presidential administrations- helping ensure a smooth transition between each president’s respective teams.
