What is Standards And Values?
Standards and values are essential components of any successful society. They provide a sense of purpose and order in our lives, as well as helping to create a shared identity within our communities. Standards and values help us to distinguish right from wrong, good from bad, and provide a foundation for healthy relationships with ourselves, others, and the world around us. When discussing standards and values it is important to note that these terms are not interchangeable. Standards refer to accepted practices or norms that are used as measurements of quality or performance. These could be anything from educational qualifications for jobs, legal codes or regulations that must be followed in certain situations, or even the expectations we have for ourselves in everyday life (e.g., showing up on time at work). Values on the other hand refer to beliefs about what is right/wrong/good/bad – they are principles that guide our behaviour in various situations and direct how we interact with others. They could include things like respectfulness, honesty, justice etc., which ultimately determine how we live our lives. The importance of standards and values lies in their ability to shape our actions & behaviours they develop into habits over time such that they become second nature when interacting with others & approaching difficult decisions & situations (e.g., how you would respond if someone were being rude). Having strong personal standards & values helps us maintain integrity by staying true to ourselves & living up to what we believe is right – regardless of external pressure or temptation – thus creating an internal compass guiding us through life’s trials & tribulations. Ultimately, it is important for all individuals (children especially) to understand their own unique set of standards & values so that they can make informed decisions about how best approach different aspects of life; this will enable them navigate conflicts between themselves & those around them more effectively while still remaining true their own sense morality/ethics.
