What is Non Small Cell Lung Cancer?
Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) is a form of lung cancer that affects many people around the world. It is the most common type of lung cancer and accounts for approximately 80-85% of all cases. NSCLC is more difficult to treat than early stage small cell lung cancer, as it tends to spread quickly and can be difficult to detect in the early stages. However, there are treatments available that can help improve prognosis and quality of life for those affected by this condition. NSCLC begins when abnormal cells begin to grow uncontrollably in the lungs, typically in the larger airways or alveoli. These abnormal cells may have originated from a primary tumor elsewhere in the body or could have arisen from genetic mutations present within certain types of healthy lung cells. NSCLC often spreads to other areas such as lymph nodes, bones, liver and brain before it is even detected, making it difficult to diagnose and treat at an early stage. The risk factors associated with NSCLC include smoking cigarettes, exposure to secondhand smoke or radon gas, asbestos exposure or having family history – particularly if one or both parents had NSCLC diagnosis previously. Additionally people with a weakened immune system due to HIV/AIDS are also at higher risk for developing this disease due to their inability fight off invaders such as viruses which can cause mutations leading up cell growth into tumors within the lungs. Treatments for non-small cell lung cancer depend on how advanced your particular case is but commonly range from surgery, radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy depending on how far along your illness has progressed since diagnosis was made initially. Additionally immunotherapy techniques are being studied further as potential treatment options for those affected by this disease though their effectiveness still remains inconclusive thus far – however further research into this area could potentially lead up new breakthroughs into the field of NSCLS treatments soon enough. In conclusion Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that affects many individuals worldwide each year – prompting medical professionals alike prioritize its diagnosis whenever possible so that treatment plans can be initiated earlier rather than later thereby improving prognosis significantly. Although currently there are no known cures yet available still ongoing research efforts continue steadily towards finding better ways dealing with these diseases effectively over time too.
