What is Later Middle Ages?
The Later Middle Ages, also known as the Late Middle Ages, was a period of European history that spanned from the 14th to the 16th century. This period is known for its cultural achievements and significant changes to political and social structures. It marked a transition from the Medieval Age to the Early Modern Age and was marked by many important developments in science, religion, economics, politics and culture.During this time period, Europe saw major advances in technology such as gunpowder and printing press which facilitated communication between countries. In addition, religious movements such as Humanism and Reformation had great influence on society during this time period. The economic situation of Europe improved largely due to development in trade networks with other regions such as Asia and Africa. This increased global trade led to an increase in goods available for consumption which resulted in population growth throughout Europe during this time period. In terms of culture, literature flourished during this time with works such as Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales becoming widely read across Europe. Artistic expression saw a variety of changes with Renaissance art focusing on realism while Gothic art focused more on symbolism in its depiction of religious themes. Overall, the Later Middle Ages saw significant changes across all aspects of life including politics, economics and culture that laid down the foundations for modern Europe today.
