What is Host Country Nationals?
Host Country Nationals, or HCNs, are individuals that were born and raised in the country where an international organization is located. They often play a crucial role within many organizations as they have an intimate understanding of local culture, customs, language and regulations. As such, HCNs can be valuable assets to both their home countries and the international organizations they serve. HCNs provide unique perspectives on issues due to their familiarity with local political dynamics. This gives them a better insight into how decision-making occurs at a national level; this knowledge can be extremely useful for international organisations when developing strategies that take into account cultural sensitivities or other aspects specific to the host country’s context. In addition, HCNs are typically more adept at navigating through bureaucracy than foreign staff members since they understand the process better – thus providing organisations with access to resources which may otherwise be difficult to obtain from abroad. In addition to being able to offer expert advice on matters related to their home countries’ laws and customs, HCNs also bring diversity of thought which helps broaden organisational views on different subject areas. With increasing globalisation of today’s workforce comes greater acceptance and appreciation of differences in backgrounds and opinions among workers; by having HCN employees who represent various cultures working together towards a common goal it allows teams to draw upon diverse experiences when making decisions or developing products/services resulting in higher quality work output overall. For these reasons, it is essential for any organisation operating overseas (particularly those working in development) to hire Host Country Nationals (HCN). Not only do they bring invaluable knowledge related directly relevant topics but also contribute greatly towards increased diversity amongst teams both factors increase productivity leading ultimately lead towards successful completion of projects/programmes.
