What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a chronic medical condition that occurs when the body does not produce or properly use insulin, the hormone that helps regulate blood sugar. In addition to these two major types of diabetes, there are also gestational diabetes (during pregnancy) and other rare forms of diabetes such as monogenic forms or mitochondrial disorders. No matter what type of diabetes you have it is important to get regular check-ups with your doctor to monitor your health. Eating healthy foods along with regular exercise can help manage your blood sugar levels and reduce your risk for developing complications associated with diabetes. Additionally, taking medications prescribed by your doctor may be necessary to control blood sugar levels depending on your individual needs. It’s important to take steps today to protect yourself from developing complications related to this disease down the roadremember that knowledge is power.
