What is China?
China is an ancient country with a long and rich history. It has been the birthplace of many great inventions, including paper-making, printing, gunpowder, the compass and movable type. China is home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations and its culture dates back thousands of years. Today, it is a leading global power in terms of economy and military strength.Chinese people are known for their hard work ethic, strong family values and respect for education. The Chinese language is also very complex yet beautiful; it uses characters instead of letters like other languages do. In addition to this unique written system, Chinese cuisine is renowned worldwide as being incredibly varied and delicious. From hot pot to dim sum to Sichuan dishes there are endless choices when it comes to tasting traditional Chinese flavours.The landscape in China varies greatly from north to south with lush forests in the south while it gradually turns into grassy steppes in the northern regions. One can find some stunning natural scenery all over China ranging from snow-capped mountains in Tibet to tropical beaches on Hainan Island or stunning karst formations along rivers such as those found along Guilin’s Li River. Education plays an important role in Chinese society; students often study hard for exams so that they can go on to university or college afterwards. There are now several elite universities which focus on research excellence such as Tsinghua University or Peking University which produce top graduates every year who often end up working at top multinational companies or government organizations. Overall, China has much more than just excellent food or amazing sights it offers centuries worth of cultural heritage for those who wish to explore further into its depths.
