What is Bait And Switch?
Bait and switch is a deceptive marketing tactic commonly used in the retail industry. Bait-and-switch tactics can have serious consequences on both consumers and businesses alike. Consumers might feel cheated out of their money as well as their time; after all, it’s not unusual for shoppers to travel long distances just to take advantage of an advertised offer only to find out it’s not available after all. Businesses may also suffer from customer dissatisfaction due to bait-and-switch tactics; this could lead to negative reviews online or even legal action depending on how egregious the practice is perceived by customers. For these reasons, most countries have laws governing bait-and-switch advertising practices; some even ban its use altogether. Additionally, companies must be careful not to misrepresent products or services in any way including through pricing so that consumers are aware of exactly what they’re getting before committing to make a purchase. When retailers adhere strictly to ethical standards of conduct and transparency, there should be no need for deceptive tactics like bait-and-switch strategies when attempting to attract new business.
