What is Ancient Greeks And Romans?
The Ancient Greeks and Romans are two civilizations that greatly impacted our modern world. They were both incredibly influential in the development of western society, providing us with a rich legacy of literature, art, architecture, philosophy, and government structure. The Ancient Greek civilization was ruled by multiple city-states who maintained their own unique identity but shared a common language, religion, and culture. The most famous of these states was Athens which produced some of the greatest minds in history like Socrates and Plato. These philosophers left behind ideas that shaped our thoughts on democracy and justice as well as mathematics and science. Additionally the arts flourished during this time period with masterpieces created in sculpture, painting and pottery. Architecture also developed at an impressive rate creating monuments such as the Parthenon which still stand today. The Roman Empire eventually replaced Greece as the dominant power in Europe after defeating them in battle during the Punic Wars (264 BC – 146 BC). Rome adopted much from Greek civilization while adding their own distinctive style to it; many forms of government have been based off of Rome’s Republican form including America’s current system. This is just one example out of many how Rome has influenced modern times; they were also great builders constructing aqueducts for water transportation along with roads which allowed them to expand their empire quickly across Europe into North Africa and parts of Asia Minor . In addition Roman law provided us with legal frameworks used even today such as laws regulating property rights or criminal punishment.
