What is Adolescents And Young Adults?
Adolescents and young adults are a unique population that have special needs when it comes to their social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development. As they transition from childhood into adulthood, adolescents and young adults face complex challenges such as developing independence, establishing self-identity, managing emotions, navigating relationships with peers and parents/guardians, exploring career paths and planning for the future. Often times during this period of life adolescents and young adults who lack supportive guidance can become overwhelmed by these new experiences which may lead to poor decision making or even risky behaviors. It is essential that we provide adequate resources to help our youth successfully navigate through adolescence into a healthy adulthood. The first step in providing such resources is understanding the key factors that shape adolescent behavior so we can better target interventions for positive change. These factors include peer influence, parent involvement in child rearing practices, economic stability of family unit as well as access to healthcare services (mental health included). Research has shown that children raised in environments where there is parental support increased participation in school activities along with improved academic performance as well as decreased risk taking behaviors than those without any parental support or structure. Therefore it important for families to be involved in their adolescent’s lives while allowing them enough room to grow independently. In addition to familial involvement providing mental health services is another great way to ensure successful development of our youth. Mental health professionals offer many beneficial therapeutic techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) among others which can help individuals cope with anxiety or depression caused by challenging social situations experienced during adolescence like identity crisis or bullying at school etc.. In addition mental health providers also offer guidance on how best deal with these types of issues going forward so adolescents learn effective problem solving skills early on before any long lasting psychological damage occurs due to unresolved conflicts . Finally providing educational opportunities surrounding sexual activity is crucial for aiding safe decision making amongst our adolescents . Programs aimed at educating teens about contraception , sexually transmitted diseases , healthy relationship dynamics etc .. will go a long way towards reducing unwanted pregnancies , abortion rates among other dangerous outcomes associated with unprotected sex . Schools should also make sure all students regardless of gender understand what constitutes sexual assault / harassment so everyone feels respected within their environment . We must take responsibility today if we want tomorrow’s generation of youngsters will be equipped handle life’s tough decisions responsibly . By investing time money & effort into understanding the complexities behind adolescent behavior & supplying necessary educational/therapeutic tools we can hopefully create healthier more resilient generations moving forward
