We talk about their value, but they are few and far between.
What prevents more leaders from creating learning organizations? Learning organizations is imperative in this techno driven globalization where knowledge is a prime inexhaustible resource that communities can tap towards further development. Learning organizations have the ability to evolve where evolution is the process that ultimately enables organizations to become sustainable, facing challenges of the new century. Leaders that fit into learning organizations are leaders that are skilled with knowledge based process and techniques. The obstacles that leaders face in creating learning organizations are plenty.
One obstacle is economics. Economics can be observed as an external factor. Learning organizations need education, training and nurturing. The learning curve of organizations can best be honed if training is done regularly. Among the scarce
...resource that leaders face to make their organizations a learning entity is time.
Time is very basic and important resource. Time for developing skills and training is usuaally deprioritized over other activities of the organization.Leaders get into the dilemma whether to stop everything just to get the knowledge to sink in with quality or compromise training quality by putting education in between organization activities or whenever there’s extra time. Politics is another element that challenges leaders especially when teaching the organizations to embrace wholeness. The leader needs to make space for growth so that learning can be more organic rather than synthetic.
Politics tend to put barriers between people and organizations that make it harder for the leader to hone the organization so that it becomes a whole. The only way for organizations to grow is when each and every aspect of the organization grow
with each other. Knowledge is always systemic and holistic. Effective knowledge is integrated thereby devoid of politics.References: Allen, K. , & Cherrey, C.
