According to the Institute on Rehabilitation Issues (1999), vocational rehabilitation counseling aims to empower individuals with disabilities. It acknowledges that changes in working conditions affect all workers, including those with disabilities, and these changes can impact various aspects of their lives such as roles, settings, and events. Consequently, effective vocational rehabilitation counseling is vital in helping people with disabilities make significant life decisions and achieve inclusion and independence.
Embarrass and Filipino (2008) conducted a study that concluded vocational education has a significant and long-term positive impact on the employment participation and productivity of disabled individuals. Through dynamic panel econometric estimation, they found that vocational education enhances patients' vocational potential and support needs. ...fect on individuals who have experienced traumatic brain injury (TAB) and subsequently return to work.
Researchers suggest vocational rehabilitation as a method to assist people with disabilities in returning to work after experiencing TAB. In the workforce, individuals with disabilities face challenges due to limited social support. Filipino and Embarrass (2010) discovered that participation is not an issue for those with disabilities, but they struggle with task completion, especially if their conditions are more severe or if they have mental health problems and lack social support. Fitch (2002) argued that societal attitudes towards disability are just as crucial as the disability itself since negative attitudes from others impact the life roles of individuals with disabilities. Numerous public sector vocational rehabilitation programs aim to provide employment-related assistance for people with disabilities. Stern et al., (2011) conducted a study on one such program that focuses on offering vocational
rehabilitation services specifically for mentally ill individuals in Virginia.
The research conducted on students and teachers of special institutions in Fusillades city found that vocational rehabilitation services have positive long-term effects on mentally ill individuals in the labor market. This descriptive survey study aimed to understand the existing situation and intensity of the problem. The researchers specifically selected boys and girls from special institutions in Fusillades city as the population for their study.
In this study, it was challenging to conduct a comprehensive analysis of all cases in order to draw conclusions. Therefore, a decision was made to choose a sample of 50 students and 25 teachers from special institutions in the city. The researchers opted for simple random sampling to select the sample. Using this method, 5 boys and 5 girls from the 10th class, as well as 5 teachers from a special institution, were randomly selected. To collect data, a well-developed questionnaire was utilized as a tool because "A questionnaire is more precise and yields quick responses from the subjects" (Black and Champion, 1976).
In order to collect all the required information for this study, the researchers created two questionnaires: one for teachers and another for students. A total of 50 surveys were given to students, while 25 surveys were distributed to teachers. With permission from the school's principal, we had the chance to visit the participating schools. Ana personally administered the questionnaires and instructed participants to carefully read each item and indicate their response in the appropriate column based on their own judgment. Thanks to Ana's direct involvement, there was a ten percent rate of returned surveys.
