Awareness of the nature of acute patient care

I am interested in applying for a Position Health Care Support Worker Band 2 in Barts NHS. My motivation towards pursuing this course is solely driven by the zeal to secure a career from a reputable organization within the healthcare industry. I managed to attain a grade C in English, Maths and Science. Besides, I am fluent in three languages Arabic, Somali, and English. I have also successfully achieved BSc Studies in Health Care which I learned all theory knowledge about all aspects in the Health field. Furthermore, I’m recently undergoing training for Barts Health NHS Trust that equips me with the sense of direction, trust, and diverse skills in the healthcare field.

Being able to communicate and interact with staff members helps to build mutual relationships in the department. During my placement, I was able to communicate effectively through use of both verbal and non verbal communication cues. I had the privilege of attending a number of seminars on effective communication strategies in the department. I conversed with different patients about the status of the facility as well as the services offered and the possible improvements that can be implemented in order to streamline operations for better services. My role as a Volunteer in the NHS gave me a glimpse of how the facility operates, its weaknesses and strengths. Most importantly, I developed my intercultural skills though communicating with different clients from varied backgrounds. I believe I have verbal and written skills as I worked with agency called Educare staff were I looked after elderly in resident care home.

Verbal and written Ability to prioritize own workload

My placement in the department helped me improve my ability to prioritize on workload in order to deliver quality services using limited resources especially healthcare personnel. Being in a facility with inadequate service providers, I was able to put priorities on healthcare services to come up with patient satisfaction. I was able to understanding the principles of stock and resource management. As an officer in the facility store, I familiarized myself with the stock taking and stock managing modalities available at the facility, since these are some of the core tasks I was involved.

Team work

As a member of a lager fraternity, I was assigned to work in small teams that were sub-units of bigger teams. I was elected as the chair of my team and this helped me learn much and developed my team working skills tremendously. I was able to lead my team to become the best overall sub-unit to achieve its goals effectively and within the specified period. This was attributed to the

essential workplace training sessions that I attended and applied the skills on team working to further improve teamwork skills of my colleagues.

Personal and people development

Working in acute patient care department helped me develop personally, as I was able to improve on my time management skills. The seminars and trainings I attended improved my life skills and experience in handling import issues in life. I was able to work with different people from varied facilities and those within the facility but from diverse departments. This helped me in building teamwork skills and team building strategies. As a leader of our team, I was able to guide and direct other team members hence making our team to be the best overall in achieving set goals and targets. As a family person, I have learned how to devote my time to my family as well as in furthering my education. Proper time management is one of the most important aspects of personal development that I gained during my time at the facility.

Helpful Respectful Professional Good interpersonal and communication skills

As a member of a functional team, I leant the value of cooperation and the need to work together. This taught me to be helpful, giving a helping to a member in order to make things work smoothly. It also helped me learn the virtue of respect for the fellow staff and higher level staff. I learnt to be professional and am always guided by the code of professional ethics. I was able to interact and relate with personnel from both vertical and horizontal levels of our organization. As a result, I was able to develop good interpersonal skills and

communication skills in the facility.

Excellent communication both written and oral

During my time at the facility, I was able to develop excellent communication skills both written and oral. I was able to communicate effectively with both the staff and patients with ease of understanding and minimal errors in the information received. I was able to use electronic and non- electronic media to pass information, both formal and informal within and across the departments in the facility with ease of understanding of the intended message.

Excellent influential and interpersonal skills

During to my period at the facility, I influenced the improvement of service delivery at the acute care facility by mobilizing healthcare providers and being a role model in providing improved quality care to the acute care patients. I was the brainchild to the central monitoring system approach at the facility that ensures the healthcare providers are able monitor patients from a single point therefore minimizing workload and improving service delivery at the acute patient care setting.

Flexibility around anti-social working patterns

Working with people from different sub- groups helped me improved my flexibility around anti- social working patterns. This included working long hours a day with increased workloads and under very tight schedules. Less service providers on weekends ensured that we work till late hours and working on weekends when demand arose. This helped me in culminating flexibility to work into odd hours under little or no supervision.

Ability to work flexibly to respond to changing service priorities

Working odd hours was unavoidable at the facility due to inadequacy of service providers. This helped me a lot in developing flexibility to respond to changing service priorities. I was able to pick up

shifts without prior notice and extend working hours irrespective of when the demand arose.

During my period at the facility, I gained a lot of knowledge and skills in acute patient care. I improved my communication skills, helped me in personal development, gained knowledge on interpersonal relationships, and purposed me to become respectful, helpful, and professional. The period I spent at each department enabled me to gain skills and experience necessary to perform similar duties with any aids and adaptations as they may arise.
