The Single career family is the traditional family structure in existence wherein the husband usually is saddled with the responsibility of providing economic security for the family while the wife catered for the children, the household and the day to day running of the home. On the other hand, the Two career family is a structure wherein both the husband and the wife pursue after economic opportunities and also function in the home front at the same time. In both family types, it is not uncommon to find the woman still bearing the bulk of the responsibilities for running the home while the man may or may not offer occasional assistance.In both structures, the relative influence wielded by the man and the woman is not significantly different. Also, the relationship in the single career family is known to be much more stable than what obtains in the dual career family. This is because the time and energy demands present in the dual are significantly reduced in the single family structure so that the general atmosphere of the home is much more improved. And then, delegation of duties to house helps and maids is usually minimal in the dual as against what is found among the dual career families where the constraint of time forces the employment of such aids.When couples have to combine household chores with their professional duties, it is not unusual to notice frequent lapses in either of the two.

In the end they tend to lose competitiveness in the market place. So that the career that we so badly wish to protect does not enjoy the maximum of our efforts and the required progression is always at risk. Furthermore, the fact that the individual couple is involved in another venture apart from the family that requires the development of certain skills and requirements could place them at the risk of becoming incompatible with the demands of the home.The reverse is also true wherein adaptation to working at home could put efficiency at work in jeopardy. This is an ill noticed in the dual career families. In contrast, because of the differentiation of duties in the single career families, career efficiency is assured as the individual can face his job squarely with minimal interferences.

Finally, economic prosperity remains the strongest argument in favor of the dual career family structure. And of course, does it not stand to reason that two earners are better that one? Obviously, this luxury is perceived to be absent in the single career family structure.
