The film, Sicko, surprised and shocked me. I have never really had much of an opinion on health care before I saw this movie. The greed and corruptness of health care organizations made me not want to live in this country, but to leave and go to Europe or some other place that has universal health care.
In Britain the physicians get paid more if they get their patients to quit smoking, have lower blood pressure, and become healthier.Here in the U. S. , the goal is denials; the more denials, the more opportunity for promotions and pay raises. In Europe, anyone can walk into a hospital at anytime and receive treatment without any hassle.

...hier people and higher life expectancies. In the U. S. , receiving health care is completely based on one’s coverage.It doesn’t matter how bad the circumstances are; one won’t receive medical care without the proper insurance.
Moore pointed out two examples that were astonishing. A man cut off two of his fingers. He had to choose which one he could repair because his ring finger cost $12,000 and his middle finger cost $60,000. He couldn’t afford to repair both fingers. The second example is the daughter that was going def. Doctors told the parents they could only fix one ear.
Another instance I found interesting in Sicko was the older Canadian couple.They were scared to go to the U. S. , even for a day, because, if they were injured at all, they probably wouldn’t receive any medica
care without insurance. Moore also brought up a fascinating point about the government, which I was unaware of; health care organizations contribute and influence Congress immensely.
The HMO’s spent over $100 million to defeat Hillary Clinton’s plan as she tried to limit their choices in 1993. Overall, I thought the movie was great. Moore taught, through first-hand experience, the failings of the U. S. health care system.
I enjoyed how he went to many different countries to see how each was run by universal health care. He also did well to get many different insights towards our health care system. His sarcastic humor was also very entertaining. The national health insurance that we have now is a disgrace.
Michael Moore alluded to this in Sicko. Due to the smoke and circumstances of the 9/11 attacks, many of the helpers contracted illnesses and injuries. There was a fund prepared for these people, but they had to meet certain conditions, which many of them didn’t.Moore located several of these unfortunate helpers and went to Cuba, where they could get the proper health care they needed.
The helpers were amazed at the health care they received in Cuba compared to the U. S. About 48 million Americans don’t have health insurance and thousands will die this year, simply by lacking health insurance. I believe this country would be better off with universal health care or something similar, where everyone should be required to have it and the health insurance should be easily affordable.Employers should not be responsible for providing complete health insurance coverage because it is too expensive and most businesses would become bankrupt.
The employee’s lifestyle and habits should play a part
in the health care provided by the employer. If the employee leads a healthy lifestyle by eating choices and exercising, then the benefits by the employer should be raised. This provides the employee with the motivation to lead a fit lifestyle and to reduce unhealthy habits. The employer should create incentives to lead the employee to a healthier lifestyle.
