For a Nurse to gain professionalism and the professional values associated with the nursing profession, it is important that he or she adheres to the set standards. The first step involves understanding the theoretical framework that covers the standards of practice accepted within the profession through learning (Taliaferro, 2006). Professional values are well illustrated in the theoretical framework to help nurses learn and understand how to treat patients professionally. Studying will also entail reviewing previous case studies to review the skills the previous and skilled nurses used to deal with previous cases. The nurse can, for instance, decide to review the profession's values and put them into practice in the learning and provision of health care delivery services. The association with and practice of a nurse under skilled professionals can also help an individual gain professional values in the nursing profession. In this case, the nurse will take direct commands from a senior practicing nurse or supervisor on ways to provide health care services (Cutcliffe, Butterworth & Proctor, 2001). Within an environment that nurses are practicing a new nurse will acquire the professionalism both consciously and unconsciously. Under direct supervision of a practicing nurse, the supervisor will offer to advise on the accepted values of the profession and the means to use to ensure that professionalism is upheld by a nurse in the practice of nursing. The supervisor, for instance, will offer information on the ways to collect and record information without breaking confidentiality. Through interaction and guidance with
other skilled personnel, a new nurse will learn how to keep the right social distance to ensure other nurses relate to him in a professional manner.
