Exercise 13
Step 1
1 of 6
This exercise is like a conversation between Luis and his mother. We have to order the words given to form what each one says.

Remember that we must place the corresponding punctuation marks.

Note that in this case, the mother tells Luis what needs to be done and he complains.

Step 2
2 of 6
1. The words are: mom / oh / fed up / the / housework / of / I am.

In this case, Luis is complaining that his mother sent him to sweep the floor. If we order the words we will get the following response from his part:

|Spanish |English |
|–|–|
| ¡Ay, mamá! Estoy harto de los quehaceres. | Oh mom! I am fed up with housework. |

Step 3
3 of 6
2. The words are: dust / that / furniture / the / there are / room / the / of.

Note that the words above are the ones in the book. When we form the sentence, the use of those words in Spanish makes sense, but in English the expression is different.

What we must understand is that in this case Luis’s mother tells him what needs to be done.

|Spanish |English |
|–|–|
|Hay que sacudir los muebles de la sala. | It’s necessary to dust the furniture of the room. |

Step 4
4 of 6
3. The words are: what / oh / a drag / times / already / thousand / it / I did.

In this case, Luis is complaining because he says he has already done that a thousand times. That is why he uses the expression *¡qué pesado!* *(what a drag!)* at the beginning of the answer.

|Spanish |English |
|–|–|
|¡Ay, qué pesado! Ya lo hice mil veces. | Oh, what a drag! I already did it a thousand times. |

Step 5
5 of 6
4. The words are: favor / do / the / the / water / garden / of / plants / of / too.

In this case, Luis’s mother tells him what to do using the expression *haz el favor (do the favor*). We must remember that this expression is followed by *of* and the gerund verb.

|Spanish |English |
|–|–|
|Haz el favor de regar las plantas del jardín también. | Do the favor of watering the plants of the garden too. |

Step 6
6 of 6
5. The words are: it is / fair / not / never / to water them / Julieta / her / to / turn.

| Spanish| English|
|–|–|
|¡No es justo! A Julieta nunca le toca regarlas. | It’s not fair! Julieta never has to water them. |

Exercise 14

We can say that the vacuum is to the left of the couch. However, since we already said that the TV is to the left of the couch, now we can say that the vacuum is in front of the TV or the shelf.

| Spanish|English |
|–|–|
| La aspiradora está delante del televisor. | The vacum is in front of the television. |
| Está en frente del estante. | It’s facing the shelf. |

Step 5
