Beyond any reasonable doubt the day I felt fortunate is the day I got an internship in my dream company. For a teenager, getting employment is a way of making some extra money mainly for clothes and movies. Personally, this job experience made me feel independent and more adult like. However, it taught me to be more responsible on how to handle my finance, I learned the art of punctuality, how to commute through public transport, how to network and interact with coworkers and other people. Despite being the youngest staff, I have to confess that the three months internship made me learn real life skills. I will never forget the experience; it’s a big part of my maturity process into a responsible young adult.
As soon I received the acceptance letter I thought I would be working at a fixed workstati
...on or a cubicle entering data or doing simple paper works and hardly talking to my coworkers. To my surprise none of my predictions were right. The company being a modern, international, fast- paced organization, they worked with big companies with global recognitions using their advanced communication technology to negotiate contracts and make profits. I was proud to be associated with my dream company especially when I saw many start-up companies turning to us for advice or financial and human resource support, but we helped them become successful thanks to our directors for their generosity and doing a fantastic job.
I can still remember my first day I reported on the job. It was on a Monday, and I found myself there an hour earlier than the stipulated official time. Walking in I was very nervous,
and I took a seat as I glanced around looking over excited but at the same time afraid of what am supposed to do next. The supervisor came and warmly welcomed me and gave out some snacks, and that is when I realized that it is the company norm that whenever a new employee or intern is oriented free snacks are given out to every company staff. The supervisor explained clearly what they expected of me and walked me through every step. That day was very informative. I just remember leaving with a smile and euphoric I landed my dream job although for three months.
My first two weeks were engaging because I was familiarizing with the work environment, I did a lot of tutorials, assignments until I knew my roles and duties like the back of my hands. The following week I was ready to start my first project with different clients and my project supervisor who will be handling my weekly reports. My project involved a lot of public interaction and education. One of my roles entailed speaking in front of people and be willing answer questions, which sometimes was nerve-wracking but my supervisor was there encouraging, correcting and guiding me every step of the way until I became a professional. I don’t know how time, weeks and months flew, my last day of my internship was there, despite the sadness of I will be missing the greatest period of my life. I had a little party with a few coworkers and supervisors; they gave me useful advice on my career development which has proved to be helping me a lot up-to-date.
My internship with
my dream company taught me a lot of beneficial things. For instance, I learned the power of teamwork and collaboration. I learned to be open-minded and be willing to work in any type work environment. In this short span of time, I saw the values of being respectful to all, honest and flexible to interact and network with people. These career and life lessons and values will forever be instilled in me throughout my life. I will teach my fellow students the values I learned and equip them before they seek internships in the leading corporations because I now know what they are looking for in students. On the other hand, the internship with my dream company is the best thing that has ever happened to me giving me the sense of success in I have always wished for as a student.
