To prepare for our devised piece, I studied the behavior of individuals of the opposite gender to mimic their mannerisms since I was portraying a male character. Along with this, I took responsibility for arranging the majority of the props and bringing in my outfit. Additionally, our group collaborated on scripting the central scenes, rehearsing the performance and constructing a plan for the lighting crew. For my role, I drew inspiration from individuals who exhibited timid behavior and seemed to comply with more assertive characters.
In moments of hesitancy, such as when leaving the barracks and in the final soliloquy, I convinced the audience of the play's effectiveness. The play was structured effectively, with the main dialogue delivered by Louise's ghostlike counterpart. This allowed for fewer lines for the other actors to memorize and provid
...ed continuity throughout the performance, allowing the audience to connect with both actresses playing the main character. Additionally, Keziah Calverd portrayed the typical bachelor convincingly, disregarding his daughter's distress in favor of watching a football game.
The text describes a performance that presents the mannerisms of the opposite sex as an example. However, the performance had some flaws, including being too short and not having all the props due to a lack of time. If the performance were to be done again, the speaker suggests adding more to the story by having Louise become pregnant, struggling to cope with an unknown father who is one of two men she hates. Finally, the speaker recommends including a suitable song at the end.
Our original plan was to perform 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' by Eva Cassidy. However, we realized at
the last minute that playing this song may upset someone in the audience. They had recently lost their father and this song was played at his funeral.
Despite some minor disagreements, my group worked well together. We were able to compromise on things that were not working or that we could not all do. Additionally, our friendly relationship prevented us from having many arguments.
Our play was distinct from 'Junk' due to the main characters being a different age and running away from different things. Although both characters ran away, Louise was running away from her father and general problems, while Gemma was running away from her parents. Also, they had different ways of running with Louise's suicide being final compared to Gemma's temporary runaway for a few weeks.
