I have majored in Sociology and Global studies where I have gained insights to understand social problems in the globalizing world. I have devoted myself to the Fossil Free UC activist campaign where I have learnt that determination and proper implementation process can bring significant changes. I have volunteered at local organizations from where I have realized that there is much to be done to improve poverty. I have also learnt that the global society needs responsible operations, strong advocates and good policies. The experiences affirmed my determination to pursue a career in public policy.
My future plan is to work on poverty and environmental issues at international level. I would like to acquire experience first with a major public policy institution as a policy analyst. I would also like to launch my own initiatives to deal w
ith identified social problems. My work will involve international issues such as in China-my home country.
Public policy is the most pragmatic way to initiate change. My interest is to find out why some policies were created, how they affect the related institutions and how to create policy that effectively solves the many global issues we face. I hope to come up with feasible solutions by knowing how policy works and understanding peoples’ needs. To achieve my goal I need to advance my skills in analytical and quantitative aspects and acquire training in statistics, political science and economics.
SIPA is the best place for me to acquire these skills. I am interested in Urban and Social Policy under the MPA program which is at its best in SIPA. The program is well designed to suit the international focus associated with public
policy issues. The diverse community of SIPA will widen my horizons and inspire me to make well rounded decisions for my career. There is no better place to study Urban and Social issues than in New York City where I can observe social issues and strategies every day. I will have the chance to interact with world class faculties, panel discussions and internship opportunities in the city will be a step in my career.
It is my hope that with the knowledge and skills from SIPA I can contribute for progress in important global issues. Should you admit me, I hope to fulfill all my dreams in bringing change through public policy and you will be proud of your alumnus.
